DART Test Trains Traveling along the Green Line
DART is testing trains along the southeast section of the new Green Line extension between MLK, Jr. and Buckner stations. Similar tests are now being conducted all along the entire northwest section of the new Green Line extension.

Be Safe: Watch for Trains
While fences restrict access to most of the rail corridor, it's important to be aware that the rail line is active, with trains traveling up to 65 miles per hour depending on their location. The train at-grade crossings on the Green Line are clearly marked with signs, red flashing lights and crossing arms that come down prior to the train's arrival at the intersection.

Pedestrians, cyclists and motorists also are urged to follow these critical safety precautions:
* Always obey traffic signs and signals.
* Never assume you have the right-of-way.
* Expect a train on the track at any time.
* Never stop or stand on train tracks.
* Cross tracks only at marked crosswalks.

Southwestern Medical District/Parkland Community:

Medical District Drive between Harry Hines and Maple Avenue to be Closed for One Month
Reconstruction of a 2-lane to 4-lane divided facility begins

The Texas Department of Transportation's (TxDOT) Contractor, Tiseo Paving, is beginning a thirteen month project to reconstruct Medical District Drive beginning on July 19, 2010 and continuing through August 2011. This project will reconstruct Medical District Drive between Harry Hines Boulevard and Maple Avenue increasing the 2-lane asphalt road to a 4-lane divided concrete road.

The first phase of the project includes the installation of box culverts across the road and will necessitate closing the road while this work is completed. There will be limited access for local traffic. However, no through traffic will be allowed.

Love Field West Community:

Neighborhood Construction Advisory - West of Love Field
Construction on DART's exciting Green Line expansion into Northwest Dallas, Farmers Branch and Carrollton has begun in earnest and will continue until passenger service officially begins in December 2010. Listed below is a brief outline of how some of the major streets in the neighborhood west of Love Field will be affected.

Denton Drive at Mockingbird Lane
Motorists should expect periodic lane reduction on both streets as various construction stages proceed during the project.


• From Monday, August 30 through approximately Monday, September 13, Manor Way at the rail guideway will be closed. View a street location map.

• Traffic is reduced to one lane each way at W. Mockingbird Lane and Denton Drive. View a street location map.

Updated Anson has been reopened. Burbank at Denton will be closed for rail crossing work through approximately Friday, September 17. View a street location map.

• There is a traffic switch on Denton Dr. from Mockingbird to Empire Central for paving work. The southbound lanes are closed and traffic is detoured onto the northbound lanes with one lane open in each direction. View a street location map.

• One curb side southbound lane on Denton Drive between Empire Central and Love Field Drive is closed for ongoing work. View a street location map.

• Denton is closed from Shorecrest to Webb Chapel Ext. for underground utility and bridge work until further notice. Detour is available via Harry Hines. View a street location map.

Walnut Hill/Denton Area construction information


Walnut Hill/Denton Area:

Construction for DART's exciting Green Line Expansion Program into Northwest Dallas, Farmers Branch and Carrollton, is underway and will continue until the new passenger service begins in December 2010. Construction in this area will necessitate occasional traffic shifts and detours as some of the local streets and infrastructure are improved.

• Webb Chapel Extension at Denton Drive is reduced to one lane in each direction for the installation of underground utilities until further notice. View a street location map.

• Denton Drive between Storey Lane and Community Drive has reopened. The portion of Denton between Community Drive and Webb Chapel remains closed until further notice. View a street location map.

• No northbound traffic from Walnut Hill Lane onto Denton Drive due to pavement work. View a street location map.

Farmers Branch Community construction information


Farmers Branch Community:

Farmers Branch Park & Ride Stops To Relocate May 7th - Effective May 7, 2010
Additional construction to prepare Farmers Branch Park & Ride for the arrival of rail service will require the removal of bus stops from Denton Drive on Friday, May 7.

Bus Routes 44, 185, 204, 247, 331, 400 and 486, DART On-Call and Paratransit Services vehicles will begin serving temporary stops near the future rail platform beginning with that afternoon's rush hour.

Bus service will move to the station when the DART Rail Green Line begins serving Farmers Branch on Monday, December 6. View a street location map.

• Farmers Branch Lane at the rail guideway is closed from Monday, September 13 through approximately Saturday, September 25 for crossing work. View a street location map.

• Various lanes on Valley View Lane at the rail guideway will be closed from Monday, September 20 through approximately Saturday, October 2 for crossing work. View a street location map.

Updated Start date change: On Wednesday, September 15, Ismaili Center Circle at the rail guideway will be closed for crossing work for approximately 2 weeks. View a street location map.

KEY ACTIVITIES
  • There will continue to be heavy construction activity along the median of Lake Carolyn Pkwy as crews continue utility relocations and station work. Motorists are advised to use caution when traveling through this area due to changing traffic configurations. Motorists are not permitted to drive or park inside closures. Pedestrians need to remember that it is not safe for them to enter construction zones, so they will need to use alternate walking and jogging routes. Additional lane restrictions in this area may be required for crews to complete activities. Please use caution in this area with changing traffic configurations.


    • HARRY HINES/NORTHWEST HWY./I-35E/JUSTICE WAY AREA: Crews will continue bridge construction from just west of Harry Hines/ Northwest Hwy/Spur 482 toward Justice Way requiring various lane restrictions and traffic delays. Motorists are advised to monitor Orange Line Construction alerts to help minimize travel impacts. Please plan your routes, allow extra time to reach your destination, and observe any changes in speed limits or detours.

    • ROAD CLOSURES AND LANE RESTRICTIONS:
  • Rail setting will continue for the Trinity River bridge structure from Jamison/Bachman Station to the west side of the levy on the Spur 482 Frontage Rd. Certain aspects of bridge construction will require full closures to avoid work over live traffic. Information regarding these closures will be communicated.

    • Please note that all dates are tentative as they do not account for weather delays or other schedule impacts.

    TRINITY RIVER AREA: Bridge construction has moved into the Trinity River area. Motorists can expect to see increased activity in the Trinity as the bridge structure continues to move west.

    • ROAD CLOSURES AND LANE RESTRICTIONS:
  • Lane restrictions may be required along the Spur 482 Trinity River Bridge as bridge construction continues. Expect heavy construction traffic in this area and vehicles entering and exiting the site.


    • SPUR 482/FEDEX/CENTRAL FREIGHT: Crews will continue bridge construction work along the Spur 482 frontage road in front of FedEx and Central Freight.

    • ROAD CLOSURES AND LANE RESTRICTIONS:
  • Restrictions along the right lane of the Spur 482 frontage road will remain in place for a few weeks.

    LOOP 12/SH 114 FRONTAGE ROAD AREA: Expect construction activity and increased truck traffic along the SH 114 frontage road around Loop 12 and the old Texas Stadium site.

    • ROAD CLOSURES AND LANE RESTRICTIONS:
  • Activities will require restrictions of the right lane of the westbound SH 114 frontage road. Please use caution with the increased construction traffic.


    • TELEPORT BLVD./RIVERSIDE DRIVE AREA: Utility relocation and bridge construction continues along Teleport from Riverside Dr thru to Las Colinas Blvd. Minor lane restrictions may be required for some additional utility relocation work. Teleport Blvd will continue be closed permanently at SH 114 to thru traffic. Access to business drives along Teleport will remain open. Please use caution in this area with changing traffic configurations. Pedestrians need to remember that it is not safe for them to enter construction zones, so they will need to use alternate walking and jogging routes. Motorists are advised to use caution when traveling through this area and obey the advised, posted speed limit of 25 mph.

    CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES:
  • Utility relocation - The utility relocation activities at the Teleport Blvd and Riverside Dr. intersection may require some night work to reduce impact to motorists in the area.

    • ROAD CLOSURES AND LANE RESTRICTIONS:
  • Restrictions of Teleport Blvd south of Riverside Drive will continue for construction activities. Two-way traffic will be maintained for traffic entering and exiting Miss Bloomingdale's Academy.


  • Teleport will continue to be closed to thru traffic just past the Irving Fire Department driveway. Access to the post office through the entrance east of Teleport from Las Colinas. Signage will be present to direct motorists.


  • Crews will continue miscellaneous asphalt paving patches along Lake Carolyn Pkwy/Teleport as needed. Flaggers will be present to direct traffic.


  • Teleport will continue to be closed to thru traffic just after the Miss Bloomingdale's Academy entrance. Various temporary lane restrictions may be required for crews to complete their activities in the Teleport/Riverside area. Please monitor changes to traffic configurations, and use caution when traveling through this area.


  • Expect impacts to the Riverside Commons fire lane over the next several weeks as crews continue utility relocation work and prepare for the bridge structure in that area.


    • LAKE CAROLYN PARKWAY AREA: Construction activity continues along the Lake Carolyn Pkwy area. Current activities include utility relocations that will require various lane closures and traffic configurations to provide a safe work space for crews to complete construction activities. Station construction activities are underway with grading operations that will impact traffic on both northbound and southbound Lake Carolyn Pkwy, south of O'Connor.

    Construction activities for crossings will continue along Lake Carolyn Pkwy requiring restrictions to the intersections along Teleport and Lake Carolyn Pkwy, beginning with California Crossing. Please monitor construction alerts to minimize traffic impacts. Details will be communicated as these activities draw closer.

    Pedestrians need to remember that it is not safe for them to enter construction zones, so they will need to use alternate pet walking and jogging routes. Motorists are also asked to monitor construction updates and observe and changed speed limits or traffic configurations when traveling through this construction zone. Motorists are not permitted to enter or park inside construction zones. Additional lane restrictions and rolling closures may be required to provide a safe work area as crews continue to progress with the project.

    • ROAD CLOSURES AND LANE RESTRICTIONS:
  • The Northwest corner of O'Connor and Lake Carolyn will be closed thru September 13. Residents from the Lofts at Las Colinas will need to enter and exit from O'Connor on the Northbound side of Lake Carolyn Pkwy. Residents from Delante should enter in the same location and exit onto Riverside Dr. Please see map of configuration 20 (PDF file opens in a new window).

  • The left lane of southbound Lake Carolyn Pkwy will be closed from California to Las Colinas thru early September. Southbound traffic only will be permitted on Lake Carolyn Pkwy to Las Colinas Blvd. Traffic in that area need to enter Lake Carolyn Pkwy from California Crossing.


  • Restrictions of the inside lanes of northbound and southbound Lake Carolyn Pkwy just south of O'Connor will continue for 1-2 weeks for systems work. Access to the Towers at Lake Carolyn will be maintained.

  • Restrictions at Lake Carolyn Pkwy median cut north of California Crossing is closed. Please see map of configuration 21 (PDF file opens in a new window).

  • Restrictions along Lake Carolyn Pkwy between Las Colinas Blvd and O'Connor will be required for grading and track operations. Flaggers will be present to help direct traffic. Please use caution in this area with the increased truck traffic.

  • Crews will continue miscellaneous asphalt and concrete paving patches along Lake Carolyn Pkwy as needed. Flaggers will be present to direct traffic.

  • Construction activity for the Las Colinas Urban Center Station is underway. Construction activities will require lane closures on both northbound and southbound Lake Carolyn Pkwy south of O'Connor. These activities are scheduled to take place for several months.     • Please note that all dates are tentative as they do not account for weather delays or other schedule impacts.

    CONVENTION CENTER AREA: Expect to see increased truck traffic and construction activity around the Convention Center area starting with grading operations. Bridge construction activities will continue in this area. Please continue to monitor construction alerts for changes to traffic configurations or detours. There will be heavy construction activity in this area as crews begin work on the bridge structure that will extend over SH 114.

    • ROAD CLOSURES AND LANE RESTRICTIONS:
  • Various night closures in this area will be required for the completion of the bridge structure over SH 114. Please continue to monitor construction alerts for detail regarding these closures.

       — Beginning September 11 thru late September - ramp from Hidden Ridge to Spur 348 (Holiday Inn) will be closed. Please use caution when traveling through this area. Flaggers and signage will be present to direct traffic.

       — Restrictions of the eastbound SH 114 frontage road will remain in place through mid-late September as crews complete bridge construction operations in the area.

       — Night of September 20 - SH 114 eastbound frontage road will be closed from Meadow Creek to Hidden Ridge. Signage will be provided to direct traffic.

       — Week of September 20 - various restrictions of SH 114 and ramps around the area. Details will be communicated as activities draw closer.

  • Construction activity is scheduled to continue for the Irving Convention Center Station along Spur 348 (between SH 114 and Riverside). Lane restrictions will be required along the right shoulder of eastbound Spur 348 for crews to complete these activities. These restrictions are scheduled to remain in place through the end of the month.

    GREEN PARK/MEADOW CREEK/CARPENTER RANCH AREA: Construction activity continues in the Carpenter Ranch area around the Meadow Creek/Green Park Dr intersection. Expect to see heavy construction activity for bridge construction, crossings, and paving in this area. Some night closures and traffic restrictions may be required to provide a safe work area. Please use caution when traveling through the area with the increased activity, and monitor construction alerts to minimize travel impacts.

    • ROAD CLOSURES AND LANE RESTRICTIONS:
  • Restrictions of the right lane of eastbound Meadow Creek and southbound Green Park will continue through September. Flaggers may be required to direct traffic. Please use caution when traveling through this area.


  • Construction activity will continue in the area of Green Park and Meadow Creek for crews to continue paving, bridge construction and crossing work. These activities may require various lane restrictions or shoulder closures.


  • Various lane restrictions on the far right lanes of both eastbound and westbound Hidden Ridge between Green Park and MacArthur will continue. This work will be ongoing for several weeks.


    • NORTH LAKE COLLEGE/MACARTHUR AREA: Heavy construction activity is moving into the North Lake College and MacArthur area with grading, walls, bridge construction and station work. Heavy activity will continue around the North Lake College entrance off MacArthur and around MacArthur Blvd (including the median of MacArthur Blvd) to prepare for the bridge structure that will extend over MacArthur to North Lake College.

    The North Lake College entrance from MacArthur Blvd will continue to be closed. An additional, temporary entrance will be located off Walnut Hill. Lane restrictions and partial closures of MacArthur Blvd will be required to safely complete some of these operations. Detour routes will be provided and some night work may be required to minimize traffic impacts in the area. Please continue to monitor construction alerts for details.

    Please use extra caution when traveling through this area and monitor changes to speed limits or traffic configurations. Plan your routes and allow extra time to reach your destination.   • Heavy truck traffic will continue on MacArthur Blvd at the NLC entrance. Please use caution when traveling through this area.

  • Heavy truck and construction traffic along Brangus Drive to Walnut Hill and at the Brangus/Walnut Hill intersection will continue for the next few weeks. Flaggers will be present to direct traffic. Please use caution when traveling through this area and allow extra time for travel.

  • Brangus Drive will continue to be closed to thru traffic at Walnut Hill. Brangus Drive will be reconfigured to provide temporary access to North Lake College through construction. Please see traffic configuration map (PDF file opens in a new window).

  • North Lake College entrance from MacArthur Blvd will continue to be closed through September 15. An additional, temporary entrance will be located off Walnut Hill using Brangus Drive. Please see traffic configuration map (PDF file opens in a new window).

  • Expect night restrictions in early October of MacArthur Blvd for girder erection operations. Details will be provided as activities draw closer.

    WALNUT HILL/HURD AREA: Utility relocation and grading activity will continue in the Walnut Hill/Hurd area. Construction traffic will be extremely heavy in this area over the next few weeks as utility relocation and grading work move into the area. Please use caution when traveling through the area and observe changes to traffic configurations and detours.

    • ROAD CLOSURES AND LANE RESTRICTIONS:
  • There will continue to be restrictions of the far right lane of northbound and southbound Walnut Hill near Brangus for utility relocation work. Work in this area will be ongoing for several weeks.

    • DFW AREA: Construction activity continues in the DFW area.

    • ROAD CLOSURES AND LANE RESTRICTIONS:
  • Restrictions of the right lane of the southbound 161 frontage road will continue to be in place.

  • Restrictions of the right lane of the northbound 161 frontage road will remain in place through mid-September as crews complete bridge construction operations.

  • Expect shoulder restrictions of northbound 161 thru September. Additional restrictions may be required in this area. Please monitor construction alerts for information.

  • Expect restrictions of 161 in early October for girder erection operations over 161. Details regarding these closures will be communicated as activities draw closer.

    Blue Line to Rowlett Updates:

    Blue Line construction information

    • Beginning Monday, September 13, selective tree clearing operations begin near the Rainbow Estates community.

    Upcoming closures:

    Eastbound and Westbound Walnut Street at the rail crossing:
    • From August 16 through December 31, there will be various lane shifts and temporary lane closures.

    Northbound and southbound 1st Street at the rail crossing:
    • From August 16 through December 31, there will be various lane shifts and temporary lane closures.

    State Highway 78 (Lavon) at the DGNO Freight Bridge:
    • From August 2 through November 21, there will be various lane closures.

    State Highway 66 at the DGNO Freight Bridge:
    • From August 2 through November 21, there will be various lanes closed.

    Dexham Road at the DGNO Freight Rail Crossing:
    • Dexham Road at the DGNO freight rail crossing reopens on Monday, August 16. From August 16 through September 7, there will be lane shifts on Dexham.
    • Start date changed due to inclement weather: From 7 a.m. on Thursday, September 9 until midnight on Monday, September 13, DART's contractor, Austin Bridge & Road, will commence a 24-hour work cycle in order to relocate the DGNO freight track south of its current location at Dexham Road. The 24-hour work cycle is necessary in order to honor a commitment made to DGNO that their freight operations will be disabled for only five days. We apologize for any inconvenience.
    • From September 14 through November 21, there will be lane shifts on Dexham.

    Rowlett Road between State Highway 66 and Miller Road:
    • From September 6 through September 26, the two outside northbound lanes will be closed on Rowlett Road.
    • From September 27 through October 17, one inside southbound and one inside northbound lane will be closed.

    Richards Street:
    • From August 9 through September 13, there will be lane shifts on Richards.
    • On September 13, Richards at the rail guideway will be closed permanently. Traffic will follow the street's new alignment.
    • On September 13, the Richards and Melcer intersection will be open to traffic.

    Martin Drive / Melcer Drive:
    • From August 23 through September 13, various traffic lane shifts on Martin Drive will be implemented.

    Any time you undertake a construction project, the possibility for danger is elevated. DART is urging everyone to be extra careful around its facilities, vehicles and especially the construction areas. Here are 10 tips you should know.


    1. Stop, look and listen for DART vehicles.
      2. DART Safely logo
    2. Cross the street or track at designated crosswalks only.
    3. Never walk, ride or play in front of or behind a DART vehicle.
    4. Children should always exit the bus through the front door.
    5. Do not walk, ride or play in a construction area.
    6. Never walk, ride or play on or near railroad tracks.
    7. Always stand behind the textured warning strips on rail platforms.
    8. Be careful when driving or turning across train tracks.
    9. Never try to beat a train through a crossing.
    10. Remember: Safety begins with you. Talk to your family.
