Love Field West Community:

Neighborhood Construction Advisory - West of Love Field
Construction on DART's exciting Green Line expansion into Northwest Dallas, Farmers Branch and Carrollton has begun in earnest and will continue until passenger service officially begins in December 2010. Listed below is a brief outline of how some of the major streets in the neighborhood west of Love Field will be affected.

Denton Drive at Mockingbird Lane
Motorists should expect periodic lane reduction on both streets as various construction stages proceed during the project.


Traffic is reduced to one lane each way at W. Mockingbird Lane and Denton Drive. View a street location map.

There is a traffic switch on Denton Dr. from north of Hawes Ave. to Anson for paving work. The southbound lanes are closed and traffic is detoured onto the northbound lanes with one lane open in each direction. View a street location map.

An Update on Improvements Under Way on Little Denton Drive
Construction related to DART's Light Rail Green Line has begun along Little Denton Drive, with a series of enhancements including additional vinyl-coated fencing, added landscaping, curbs and sidewalk upgrades. Upon completion, these improvements will increase safety for the entire neighborhood. View a street location map.

Work has been planned in phases, with each street closure affecting one block at a time. Sidewalks will remain open during the road construction portion of the project to maximize access for residents.
PHASE 1 - Empire Central to Anson
PHASE 2 - Bombay to Langdon
PHASE 3 - Langdon to Amherst
PHASE 4 - Amherst to Burbank


Little Denton between Brookfield and Langdon and between Gilford and Bombay is closed. Little Denton is open from Burbank to Brookfield and from Langdon to Gilford. View a street location map.

Beginning approximately Wednesday, March 24, Gilford at Little Denton will be closed for paving work. View a street location map.

Denton is closed from Shorecrest to Webb Chapel Ext. for underground utility and bridge work until further notice. Detour is available via Harry Hines. View a street location map.

Walnut Hill/Denton Area construction information


Walnut Hill/Denton Area:

Construction for DART's exciting Green Line Expansion Program into Northwest Dallas, Farmers Branch and Carrollton, is underway and will continue until the new passenger service begins in December 2010. Construction in this area will necessitate occasional traffic shifts and detours as some of the local streets and infrastructure are improved.

Webb Chapel Extension at Denton Drive is reduced to one lane in each direction for the installation of underground utilities until further notice. View a street location map.

Denton Drive between Storey Lane and Community Drive has reopened. The portion of Denton between Community Drive and Webb Chapel remains closed until further notice. View a street location map.

No northbound traffic from Walnut Hill Lane onto Denton Drive due to pavement work. View a street location map.

Farmers Branch Community construction information


Farmers Branch Community:

Farmers Branch Park & Ride Stops To Relocate May 7th - Effective May 7, 2010
Additional construction to prepare Farmers Branch Park & Ride for the arrival of rail service will require the removal of bus stops from Denton Drive on Friday, May 7.

Bus Routes 44, 185, 204, 247, 331, 400 and 486, DART On-Call and Paratransit Services vehicles will begin serving temporary stops near the future rail platform beginning with that afternoon's rush hour.

Bus service will move to the station when the DART Rail Green Line begins serving Farmers Branch on Monday, December 6. View a street location map.

Carrollton Community construction information


Carrollton Community:

Construction for DART's exciting Green Line Expansion Program into Northwest Dallas, Farmers Branch and Carrollton, is under way and will continue until the new passenger service begins in December 2010. Orange Line Updates:

KEY ACTIVITIES
  • Bridge construction is rapidly moving west and into the city of Irving. Crews have finished a large majority of the bridge substructure work (columns, caps, girders, etc.) and are headed toward the Trinity River and Spur 482 Frontage Road area. As crews continue to set girders, activities may require some temporary night closures (9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.) along westbound Spur 482 (including all ramps leading to westbound Spur 482) and the Spur 482 Frontage Road. Construction of the bridge superstructure (deck, rail, etc.) may require some temporary night closures (9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.) in this area as well. Motorists are advised to monitor Orange Line construction alerts to help minimize traffic impacts, as this area is still under construction. Information regarding these closures will be communicated.

  • There will continue to be heavy construction activity along the median of Lake Carolyn Pkwy as crews continue utility relocations and station work. Motorists are advised to use caution when traveling through this area due to changing traffic configurations. Motorists are not permitted to drive or park inside closures. Pedestrians need to remember that it is not safe for them to enter construction zones, so they will need to use alternate walking and jogging routes. Additional lane restrictions in this area may be required for crews to complete activities. Please use caution in this area with changing traffic configurations.


  • HARRY HINES/NORTHWEST HWY./I-35E/JUSTICE WAY AREA: Crews will continue bridge construction from just west of Harry Hines/ Northwest Hwy/Spur 482 toward Justice Way requiring various lane restrictions and traffic delays. Motorists are advised to monitor Orange Line Construction alerts to help minimize travel impacts. Please plan your routes, allow extra time to reach your destination, and observe any changes in speed limits or detours.

  • Bridge construction
  • Rail setting operations


  • ROAD CLOSURES AND LANE RESTRICTIONS:
  • Bridge construction, including girder erection, and rail setting will continue for the Trinity River bridge structure from Jamison/Bachman Station to the west side of the levy on the Spur 482 Frontage Rd. Certain aspects of bridge construction will require full closures to avoid work over live traffic. Information regarding these closures will be communicated.

  • There will be lane restrictions to southbound Justice Way at Spur 482 as crews continue bridge construction in this area.

  • Please note that all dates are tentative as they do not account for weather delays or other schedule impacts.

    TRINITY RIVER AREA: Bridge construction has moved into the Trinity River area. Motorists can expect to see increased activity in the Trinity as the bridge structure continues to move west.

  • ROAD CLOSURES AND LANE RESTRICTIONS:
  • Lane restrictions may be required along the Spur 482 Trinity River Bridge as bridge construction continues. Expect heavy construction traffic in this area and vehicles entering and exiting the site.


  • SPUR 482/FEDEX/CENTRAL FREIGHT: Crews will continue utility relocation work along the Spur 482 frontage road in front of FedEx and Central Freight.

  • ROAD CLOSURES AND LANE RESTRICTIONS:
  • Restrictions along the right lane of the Spur 482 frontage road will remain in place for several months.

  • Nights of June 1, 3 & 5 - Girder erection will require a full closure of the Spur 482 frontage road. Traffic will be detoured back onto eastbound 482 and will use the turnaround onto westbound 482, just past the I-35 overpass. Traffic will then exit onto the frontage road.   • Please note that all dates are tentative as they do not account for weather delays or other schedule impacts.

    LOOP 12/SH 114 FRONTAGE ROAD AREA: Expect construction activity and increased truck traffic along the SH 114 frontage road around Loop 12 and the old Texas Stadium site.

  • ROAD CLOSURES AND LANE RESTRICTIONS:
  • Activities will require restrictions of the right lane of the westbound SH 114 frontage road. Please use caution with the increased construction traffic.


  • TELEPORT BLVD./RIVERSIDE DRIVE AREA: Utility relocation and bridge construction continues along Teleport from Riverside Dr thru to Las Colinas Blvd. Minor lane restrictions may be required for some additional utility relocation work. Teleport Blvd will continue be closed permanently at SH 114 to thru traffic. Access to business drives along Teleport will remain open. Please use caution in this area with changing traffic configurations. Pedestrians need to remember that it is not safe for them to enter construction zones, so they will need to use alternate walking and jogging routes. Motorists are advised to use caution when traveling through this area and obey the advised, posted speed limit of 25 mph.

    CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES:
  • Utility relocation - The utility relocation activities at the Teleport Blvd and Riverside Dr. intersection may require some night work to reduce impact to motorists in the area.
  • Bridge construction
  • Walls


  • ROAD CLOSURES AND LANE RESTRICTIONS:
  • Crews will continue miscellaneous asphalt paving patches along Lake Carolyn Pkwy/Teleport as needed. Flaggers will be present to direct traffic.

  • Teleport will continue to be closed to thru traffic just after the Miss Bloomingdale's Academy entrance. Various temporary lane restrictions may be required for crews to complete their activities in the Teleport/Riverside area. Please monitor changes to traffic configurations, and use caution when traveling through this area.

  • Crews will continue the remaining utility relocation work on Teleport. Lane restrictions on Teleport, south of Riverside Drive can be expected. Two way traffic will be maintained to and from Miss Bloomingdale's Academy.

  • Expect impacts to the Riverside Commons fire lane over the next several weeks as crews continue utility relocation work and prepare for the bridge structure in that area.

  • LAKE CAROLYN PARKWAY AREA: Construction activity is quickly ramping up in along the Lake Carolyn Pkwy area. Current activities include utility relocations that will require various lane closures and traffic configurations to provide a safe work space for crews to complete construction activities. Station construction activities are underway with grading operations that will impact traffic on both northbound and southbound Lake Carolyn Pkwy, south of O'Connor.

    Construction activities for crossings will continue along Lake Carolyn Pkwy requiring restrictions to the intersections along Teleport and Lake Carolyn Pkwy, beginning with California Crossing. Please monitor construction alerts to minimize traffic impacts. Details will be communicated as these activities draw closer.

    Pedestrians need to remember that it is not safe for them to enter construction zones, so they will need to use alternate pet walking and jogging routes. Motorists are also asked to monitor construction updates and observe and changed speed limits or traffic configurations when traveling through this construction zone. Motorists are not permitted to enter or park inside construction zones. Additional lane restrictions and rolling closures may be required to provide a safe work area as crews continue to progress with the project.

  • ROAD CLOSURES AND LANE RESTRICTIONS:
  • California Crossing will continue to be closed for track and crossing work. These restrictions will remain in place through mid-late June. Please see map of configuration 14 (PDF file opens in a new window).

  • Restrictions along Lake Carolyn Pkwy between Las Colinas Blvd and OConnor will be required for grading operations. Flaggers will be present to help direct traffic. Please use caution in this area with the increased truck traffic.

  • Restrictions along Lake Carolyn Pkwy north of OConnor will be required for grading operations. Flaggers will be present to help direct motorists. Please use caution when traveling through this area with the increased truck traffic.

  • Restrictions of the turnaround on Lake Carolyn Pkwy north of O'Connor will continue to be present for 6-8 weeks. These restrictions will require head to head traffic on the southbound side of Lake Carolyn Pkwy with traffic being maintained on the northbound side. Traffic entering Delante will enter as usual, but will be forced to exit Riverside Dr. Traffic entering the Lofts and Las Colinas will enter from the southbound side and will also exit from the southbound side.   • Crews will continue miscellaneous asphalt and concrete paving patches along Lake Carolyn Pkwy as needed. Flaggers will be present to direct traffic.

  • There will be lane restrictions on the inside, median lanes of both northbound and southbound Lake Carolyn Pkwy for utility relocation and grading activities, this work will be on-going for several months.

  • Construction activity for the Las Colinas Urban Center Station is underway. Construction activities will require lane closures on both northbound and southbound Lake Carolyn Pkwy south of O'Connor. These activities are scheduled to take place for several months.   • Please note that all dates are tentative as they do not account for weather delays or other schedule impacts.

    CONVENTION CENTER AREA: Expect to see increased truck traffic and construction activity around the Convention Center area starting with grading operations. Bridge construction activities will continue in this area. Please continue to monitor construction alerts for changes to traffic configurations or detours. There will be heavy construction activity in this area as crews begin work on the bridge structure that will extend over SH 114.

  • ROAD CLOSURES AND LANE RESTRICTIONS:
  • There will continue to be left lane restrictions of the onramp from Hidden Ridge to Spur 348 (Holiday Inn Express). Traffic will still be maintained.

  • The ramp to eastbound SH 114 from the SH 114 frontage road just east of Meadow Creek will continue to be closed as crews begin bridge structure operations. This closure is scheduled to open the week of May 17.

  • Restrictions of the eastbound 114 frontage road near the SH 114/Northwest Highway split (near Holiday Inn Express) will continue. These closures are required to create a safe work space for construction of the 114 bridge structure.

  • Restrictions will continue along the left shoulder of eastbound SH 114 just after the Northwest Hwy exit and on the right shoulder of the ramp from eastbound SH 114 to eastbound Northwest Hwy. This is the split near the Holiday Inn. The restrictions are required for crews to begin preparing for the 114 bridge structure.

  • Construction activity is scheduled to continue for the Irving Convention Center Station along Spur 348 (between SH 114 and Riverside). Lane restrictions will be required along the right shoulder of eastbound Spur 348 for crews to complete these activities. These restrictions are scheduled to remain in place through the end of the month.

  • Please note that all dates are tentative as they do not account for weather delays or other schedule impacts.

    NORTH LAKE COLLEGE/CARPENTER RANCH AREA: Construction activity has moved into the Carpenter Ranch area around the Meadow Creek/Green Park Dr intersection and into North Lake College and MacArthur with utility relocations and bridge construction. Bridge construction and utility relocation work will continue around the North Lake College near the driveway entrance off MacArthur and around MacArthur Blvd (including the median of MacArthur Blvd) to prepare for the bridge structure that will extend over MacArthur to North Lake College.

    Construction activities in the area currently include utility relocations, drill shaft work, and column operations. Lane restrictions and partial closures of MacArthur Blvd will be required to safely complete some of these operations. Detour routes will be provided and some night work may be required to minimize traffic impacts in the area. Please continue to monitor construction alerts for details.

    Please use extra caution when traveling through this area and monitor changes to speed limits or traffic configurations. Plan your routes and allow extra time to reach your destination. Pedestrians need to remember that it is not safe for them to enter construction zones, so they will need to use alternate walking and jogging routes.

  • ROAD CLOSURES AND LANE RESTRICTIONS:
  • Beginning May 24, Brangus Drive will be closed to thru traffic at Walnut Hill. Brangus Drive will be reconfigured to provide temporary access to North Lake College through construction. Please see traffic configuration map (PDF file opens in a new window).

  • Beginning June 1, the North Lake College entrance from MacArthur Blvd will be closed. An additional, temporary entrance will be located off Walnut Hill using Brangus Drive. Please see traffic configuration map (PDF file opens in a new window).

  • On Friday, May 14 (9 p.m. to 5 a.m.), northbound and southbound MacArthur will be closed just north of the North Lake College entrance for barrier removal. Signage will be provided to direct motorists. Please see traffic configuration map (PDF file opens in a new window).

  • Additional lane restrictions and partial closures of MacArthur Blvd will be required to safely complete some of these operations over the next several weeks. Detour routes will be provided and some night work may be required to minimize traffic impacts in the area. Please continue to monitor construction alerts for details.

  • Construction activity will continue in the area of Green Park and Meadow Creek for crews to continue paving, bridge construction and crossing work. These activities may require various lane restrictions or shoulder closures.

  • Various lane restrictions on the far right lanes of both eastbound and westbound Hidden Ridge between Green Park and MacArthur will continue as crews complete bridge work. This work will be ongoing for several weeks.

    WALNUT HILL/HURD AREA: Utility relocation activity will continue in the Walnut Hill/Hurd area through May. Construction traffic will be extremely heavy in this area over the next few weeks as utility relocation and grading work move into the area. Please use caution when traveling through the area and observe changes to traffic configurations and detours.

    CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES:

  • ROAD CLOSURES AND LANE RESTRICTIONS:
  • Restrictions of the southbound lane of Hurd Dr will continue as crews complete utility relocation operations. Northbound and southbound traffic will be head to head on the northbound side. Restrictions for utility relocation work on Hurd Dr will remain in place through May. Please continue to monitor changes to the traffic configuration and use caution when traveling through the area. Details regarding traffic changes will be communicated. Impacts to business drives along Hurd will be coordinated with the properties.   • There will continue to be restrictions along northbound and southbound Hurd Dr as crews complete utility relocations. Night work may be required to minimize impacts to area businesses and traffic. Please use caution when traveling through this area with the increased activity and monitor changes to traffic configurations in the area.

  • There will continue to be restrictions of the far right lane of northbound and southbound Walnut Hill near Brangus for utility relocation work. Work in this area will be ongoing for several weeks.

  • DFW AREA: Construction activity continues in the DFW area during the month of May.

  • ROAD CLOSURES AND LANE RESTRICTIONS:
  • Restrictions of the right lane of the SH 161 frontage road just south of Valley View Dr. will continue through mid May for drill shaft operations. Additional restrictions will be required in this area. Please monitor construction alerts for information.

  • Expect restrictions of the southbound SH 161 ramp to the southbound frontage road beginning May 18. These restrictions are scheduled to remain in place for 3-5 days as crews complete drill shaft operations.

  • Expect restrictions of the northbound 161 frontage road of the right lane and left shoulder beginning Monday May 17. These restrictions are scheduled to remain in place for 3-5 days as crews continue drill shaft operations.

    Blue Line to Rowlett Updates:

    Blue Line construction information

    Beginning approximately Monday, March 15, there will be various lane closures in each direction on SH-66 between Country Club and Commerce for construction on the rail bridge. This work is anticipated to continue for the next several months. View a street location map.

    Richards at Commerce in downtown Rowlett is scheduled to be closed from Monday, May 3 through approximately September 3, 2010. A temporary detour road will be built off of Commerce for patrons to access businesses and homes on Richards. Detour directional signs will be in place.     Any time you undertake a construction project, the possibility for danger is elevated. DART is urging everyone to be extra careful around its facilities, vehicles and especially the construction areas. Here are 10 tips you should know.



    1. Stop, look and listen for DART vehicles.
    2. DART Safely logo
    3. Cross the street or track at designated crosswalks only.
    4. Never walk, ride or play in front of or behind a DART vehicle.
    5. Children should always exit the bus through the front door.
    6. Do not walk, ride or play in a construction area.
    7. Never walk, ride or play on or near railroad tracks.
    8. Always stand behind the textured warning strips on rail platforms.
    9. Be careful when driving or turning across train tracks.
    10. Never try to beat a train through a crossing.
    11. Remember: Safety begins with you. Talk to your family.
