DART Test Trains Traveling along the Green Line
DART is testing trains along the southeast section of the new Green Line extension between MLK, Jr. and Buckner stations. Similar tests are now being conducted all along the entire northwest section of the new Green Line extension.
Be Safe: Watch for Trains
While fences restrict access to most of the rail corridor, it's important to be aware that the rail line is active, with trains traveling up to 65 miles per hour depending on their location. The train at-grade crossings on the Green Line are clearly marked with signs, red flashing lights and crossing arms that come down prior to the train's arrival at the intersection.
Pedestrians, cyclists and motorists also are urged to follow these critical safety precautions:

Southwestern Medical District/Parkland Community: Medical District Drive between Harry Hines and Maple Avenue to be Closed Reconstruction of a 2-lane to 4-lane divided facility begins The Texas Department of Transportation's (TxDOT) Contractor, Tiseo Paving, is beginning a thirteen month project to reconstruct Medical District Drive beginning on July 19, 2010 and continuing through August 2011. This project will reconstruct Medical District Drive between Harry Hines Boulevard and Maple Avenue increasing the 2-lane asphalt road to a 4-lane divided concrete road. The first phase of the project includes the installation of box culverts across the road and will necessitate closing the road while this work is completed. There will be limited access for local traffic. However, no through traffic will be allowed. View more information regarding the Bus Route 409 detour during this road construction. |

Love Field West Community: Neighborhood Construction Advisory - West of Love Field Construction on DART's exciting Green Line expansion into Northwest Dallas, Farmers Branch and Carrollton has begun in earnest and will continue until passenger service officially begins in December 2010. Listed below is a brief outline of how some of the major streets in the neighborhood west of Love Field will be affected.
• There is a traffic switch on Denton Dr. from Mockingbird to Empire Central for paving work. The southbound lanes are closed and traffic is detoured onto the northbound lanes with one lane open in each direction. Walnut Hill/Denton Area: Construction for DART's exciting Green Line Expansion Program into Northwest Dallas, Farmers Branch and Carrollton, is underway and will continue until the new passenger service begins in December 2010. Construction in this area will necessitate occasional traffic shifts and detours as some of the local streets and infrastructure are improved. • Webb Chapel Extension at Denton Drive is reduced to one lane in each direction for the installation of underground utilities until further notice. Farmers Branch Community: Farmers Branch Park & Ride Stops To Relocate May 7th - Effective May 7, 2010 Additional construction to prepare Farmers Branch Park & Ride for the arrival of rail service will require the removal of bus stops from Denton Drive on Friday, May 7. Bus Routes 44, 185, 204, 247, 331, 400 and 486, DART On-Call and Paratransit Services vehicles will begin serving temporary stops near the future rail platform beginning with that afternoon's rush hour. KEY ACTIVITIES HARRY HINES/NORTHWEST HWY./I-35E/JUSTICE WAY AREA: Crews will continue bridge construction from just west of Harry Hines/ Northwest Hwy/Spur 482 toward Justice Way requiring various lane restrictions and traffic delays. Motorists are advised to monitor Orange Line Construction alerts to help minimize travel impacts. Please plan your routes, allow extra time to reach your destination, and observe any changes in speed limits or detours. CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES: ROAD CLOSURES AND LANE RESTRICTIONS: TRINITY RIVER AREA: Bridge construction has moved into the Trinity River area. Motorists can expect to see increased activity in the Trinity as the bridge structure continues to move west. CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES: ROAD CLOSURES AND LANE RESTRICTIONS: SPUR 482/FEDEX/CENTRAL FREIGHT: Crews will continue bridge construction work along the Spur 482 frontage road in front of FedEx and Central Freight. CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES: ROAD CLOSURES AND LANE RESTRICTIONS: LOOP 12/SH 114 FRONTAGE ROAD AREA: Expect construction activity and increased truck traffic along the SH 114 frontage road around Loop 12 and the old Texas Stadium site. CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES: ROAD CLOSURES AND LANE RESTRICTIONS: TELEPORT BLVD./RIVERSIDE DRIVE AREA: Utility relocation and bridge construction continues along Teleport from Riverside Dr thru to Las Colinas Blvd. Minor lane restrictions may be required for some additional utility relocation work. Teleport Blvd will continue be closed permanently at SH 114 to thru traffic. Access to business drives along Teleport will remain open. Please use caution in this area with changing traffic configurations. Pedestrians need to remember that it is not safe for them to enter construction zones, so they will need to use alternate walking and jogging routes. Motorists are advised to use caution when traveling through this area and obey the advised, posted speed limit of 25 mph. CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES: ROAD CLOSURES AND LANE RESTRICTIONS: LAKE CAROLYN PARKWAY AREA: Construction activity continues along the Lake Carolyn Pkwy area. Current activities include utility relocations that will require various lane closures and traffic configurations to provide a safe work space for crews to complete construction activities. Station construction activities are underway that will impact traffic on both northbound and southbound Lake Carolyn Pkwy, south of O'Connor. Construction activities for crossings will continue along Lake Carolyn Pkwy requiring restrictions to the intersections along Teleport and Lake Carolyn Pkwy. Please monitor construction alerts to minimize traffic impacts. Details will be communicated as these activities draw closer. Pedestrians need to remember that it is not safe for them to enter construction zones, so they will need to use alternate pet walking and jogging routes. Motorists are also asked to monitor construction updates and observe and changed speed limits or traffic configurations when traveling through this construction zone. Motorists are not permitted to enter or park inside construction zones. Additional lane restrictions and rolling closures may be required to provide a safe work area as crews continue to progress with the project. CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES: ROAD CLOSURES AND LANE RESTRICTIONS: Please note that all dates are tentative as they do not account for weather delays or other schedule impacts. CONVENTION CENTER AREA: Expect to see increased truck traffic and construction activity around the Convention Center area starting with grading operations. Bridge construction activities will continue in this area. Please continue to monitor construction alerts for changes to traffic configurations or detours. There will be heavy construction activity in this area as crews begin work on the bridge structure that will extend over SH 114. CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES: ROAD CLOSURES AND LANE RESTRICTIONS: — Nights of October 17-20 - Full closure of eastbound SH 114 and the ramp to eastbound SH 114 from the frontage road just before Hidden Ridge. — The night of October 21 - Full closure of westbound SH 114 and the left lane of the eastbound 114 SH 114 frontage road. — Nights of October 24-27 - Full closure of the eastbound SH 114 frontage road. — The night of October 27 - Full closure of eastbound SH 114. GREEN PARK/MEADOW CREEK/CARPENTER RANCH AREA: Construction activity continues in the Carpenter Ranch area around the Meadow Creek/Green Park Dr intersection. Expect to see heavy construction activity for bridge construction, crossings, and paving in this area. Some night closures and traffic restrictions may be required to provide a safe work area. Please use caution when traveling through the area with the increased activity, and monitor construction alerts to minimize travel impacts. CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES: ROAD CLOSURES AND LANE RESTRICTIONS: NORTH LAKE COLLEGE/MACARTHUR AREA: Heavy construction activity is moving into the North Lake College and MacArthur area with grading, walls, bridge construction and station work. Heavy activity will continue around the North Lake College entrance off MacArthur and around MacArthur Blvd (including the median of MacArthur Blvd) to prepare for the bridge structure that will extend over MacArthur to North Lake College. Please use extra caution when traveling through this area and monitor changes to speed limits or traffic configurations. Plan your routes and allow extra time to reach your destination. Pedestrians need to remember that it is not safe for them to enter construction zones, so they will need to use alternate walking and jogging routes. • Beginning Monday, September 13, selective tree clearing operations begin near the Rainbow Estates community. Upcoming closures: Centerville Road: • From Monday, October 4 through Monday, November 29, two northbound lanes of Centerville will be closed from Miller to SH-66. Eastbound and Westbound Walnut Street at the rail crossing: • From August 16 through December 31, there will be various lane shifts and temporary lane closures. Northbound and southbound 1st Street at the rail crossing: • From August 16 through December 31, there will be various lane shifts and temporary lane closures. State Highway 78 (Lavon) at the DGNO Freight Bridge: • From August 2 through November 21, there will be various lane closures. State Highway 66 at the DGNO Freight Bridge: • From August 2 through November 21, there will be various lanes closed. • From 9 p.m. on Friday, October 15 through 6 a.m. on Saturday, October 16, all eastbound lanes of SH-66 will be closed from Quincy Drive to N. Country Club Road. Dexham Road at the DGNO Freight Rail Crossing: • From September 14 through November 21, there will be lane shifts on Dexham. Rowlett Road between State Highway 66 and Miller Road: • From Monday, October 11 through Monday, December 6, two southbound lane of Rowlett Road will be closed from SH-66 to Main Street. Richards Street: • At 6 a.m. on Friday, October 15, the Richards Street extension will open to through traffic, and will be configured to its permanent state. Access to Richards Street will be available via Melcer Drive. The existing Richards Street / DGNO freight crossing will be permanently closed. Martin Drive / Melcer Drive: • From August 23 through September 13, various traffic lane shifts on Martin Drive will be implemented. • From 7 p.m. on Friday, October 15 through 6 a.m. on Saturday, October 16, water services will be interrupted and unavailable for the areas on Melcer Drive between Industrial and Martin and on Martin Drive between Melcer and Industrial. Any time you undertake a construction project, the possibility for danger is elevated. DART is urging everyone to be extra careful around its facilities, vehicles and especially the construction areas. Here are 10 tips you should know.
- Stop, look and listen for DART vehicles.
- Cross the street or track at designated crosswalks only.
- Never walk, ride or play in front of or behind a DART vehicle.
- Children should always exit the bus through the front door.
- Do not walk, ride or play in a construction area.
- Never walk, ride or play on or near railroad tracks.
- Always stand behind the textured warning strips on rail platforms.
- Be careful when driving or turning across train tracks.
- Never try to beat a train through a crossing.
- Remember: Safety begins with you. Talk to your family.
