Southwestern Medical District/Parkland Community:

Medical District Drive between Harry Hines and Maple Avenue to be Closed
Reconstruction of a 2-lane to 4-lane divided facility begins

The Texas Department of Transportation's (TxDOT) Contractor, Tiseo Paving, is beginning a thirteen month project to reconstruct Medical District Drive beginning on July 19, 2010 and continuing through August 2011. This project will reconstruct Medical District Drive between Harry Hines Boulevard and Maple Avenue increasing the 2-lane asphalt road to a 4-lane divided concrete road.

KEY ACTIVITIES
  • There will continue to be heavy construction activity along the median of Lake Carolyn Pkwy and at the intersections of O'Connor/Lake Carolyn Pkwy and Riverside Dr/Teleport as crews continue crossing, track and station work. Motorists are advised to use caution when traveling through this area due to changing traffic configurations. Motorists are not permitted to drive or park inside closures. Pedestrians need to remember that it is not safe for them to enter construction zones, so they will need to use alternate walking and jogging routes. Additional lane restrictions in this area may be required for crews to complete activities. Please use caution in this area with changing traffic configurations.


  • HARRY HINES/NORTHWEST HWY./I-35E/JUSTICE WAY AREA: Crews will continue bridge construction from just west of Harry Hines/ Northwest Hwy/Spur 482 toward Justice Way requiring various lane restrictions and traffic delays. Motorists are advised to monitor Orange Line Construction alerts to help minimize travel impacts. Please plan your routes, allow extra time to reach your destination, and observe any changes in speed limits or detours.

  • ROAD CLOSURES AND LANE RESTRICTIONS:
  • Rail setting will continue for the Trinity River bridge structure from Jamison/Bachman Station to the west side of the levee on the Spur 482 Frontage Rd. Certain aspects of bridge construction will require full closures to avoid work over live traffic. Information regarding these closures will be communicated.

  • Please note that all dates are tentative as they do not account for weather delays or other schedule impacts.

    TRINITY RIVER AREA: Bridge construction has moved into the Trinity River area. Motorists can expect to see increased activity in the Trinity as the bridge structure continues to move west.

  • ROAD CLOSURES AND LANE RESTRICTIONS:
  • Lane restrictions may be required along the Spur 482 Trinity River Bridge as bridge construction continues. Expect heavy construction traffic in this area and vehicles entering and exiting the site.


  • SPUR 482/FEDEX/CENTRAL FREIGHT: Crews will continue bridge construction work along the Spur 482 frontage road in front of FedEx and Central Freight.

  • ROAD CLOSURES AND LANE RESTRICTIONS:
  • Restrictions along the right lane of the Spur 482 frontage road will remain in place for a few weeks.

    LOOP 12/SH 114 FRONTAGE ROAD AREA: Expect construction activity and increased truck traffic along the SH 114 frontage road around Loop 12 and the old Texas Stadium site.

  • ROAD CLOSURES AND LANE RESTRICTIONS:
  • Activities will require restrictions of the right lane of the westbound SH 114 frontage road. Please use caution with the increased construction traffic.


  • TELEPORT BLVD./RIVERSIDE DRIVE AREA: Utility relocation and bridge construction continues along Teleport from Riverside Dr thru to Las Colinas Blvd. Minor lane restrictions may be required for some additional utility relocation work. Teleport Blvd will continue be closed permanently at SH 114 to thru traffic. Access to business drives along Teleport will remain open. Please use caution in this area with changing traffic configurations. Pedestrians need to remember that it is not safe for them to enter construction zones, so they will need to use alternate walking and jogging routes. Motorists are advised to use caution when traveling through this area and obey the advised, posted speed limit of 25 mph.

  • ROAD CLOSURES AND LANE RESTRICTIONS:
  • Lane restrictions will be present along Teleport just south of Riverside Drive as crews finish up the remaining crossing work.


  • Beginning January 29 - February 1, Teleport will be closed to general traffic for paving and driveway reconstruction. Miss Bloomingdale's Academy should be accessed from Riverside Dr.


  • Teleport will continue to be closed to thru traffic just past the Irving Fire Department driveway. Access to the post office through the entrance east of Teleport from Las Colinas. Signage will be present to direct motorists.


  • Crews will continue miscellaneous asphalt paving patches along Lake Carolyn Pkwy/Teleport as needed. Flaggers will be present to direct traffic.


  • Teleport will continue to be closed to thru traffic just after the Miss Bloomingdale's Academy entrance. Various temporary lane restrictions may be required for crews to complete their activities in the Teleport/Riverside area. Please monitor changes to traffic configurations, and use caution when traveling through this area.


  • Expect impacts to the Riverside Commons fire lane through the end of January as crews continue crossing work.


  • LAKE CAROLYN PARKWAY AREA: Construction activity continues along the Lake Carolyn Pkwy area. Current activities include station and crossing work that will require various lane closures and traffic configurations to provide a safe work space for crews to complete construction activities. Station construction activities are underway that will impact traffic on both northbound and southbound Lake Carolyn Pkwy, south of O'Connor.

    Construction activities for crossings will continue along Lake Carolyn Pkwy requiring restrictions to the intersections along Teleport and Lake Carolyn Pkwy. Please monitor construction alerts to minimize traffic impacts. Details will be communicated.

    Pedestrians need to remember that it is not safe for them to enter construction zones, so they will need to use alternate pet walking and jogging routes. Motorists are also asked to monitor construction updates and observe and changed speed limits or traffic configurations when traveling through this construction zone. Motorists are not permitted to enter or park inside construction zones. Additional lane restrictions and rolling closures may be required to provide a safe work area as crews continue to progress with the project.

  • ROAD CLOSURES AND LANE RESTRICTIONS:
  • Restrictions of northbound and southbound Lake Carolyn Pkwy at O'Connor will be present through late January-early February as crews complete the remaining crossing work. Please see Lake Carolyn Parkway configuration 24 and Lake Carolyn Parkway/O'Connor configuration 25 (PDF files open in a new window).


  • Restrictions along Lake Carolyn Pkwy between Las Colinas Blvd and O'Connor will be required for grading, track and station operations. Flaggers may be present to help direct traffic when necessary. Please use caution in this area with the increased construction traffic.


  • Crews will continue miscellaneous asphalt and concrete paving patches along Lake Carolyn Pkwy as needed. Flaggers will be present to direct traffic as necessary.


  • Construction activity for the Las Colinas Urban Center Station is underway. Construction activities will require lane closures on northbound Lake Carolyn Pkwy south of O'Connor.     CONVENTION CENTER AREA: Expect to see increased truck traffic and construction activity around the Convention Center area starting with grading operations. Bridge construction activities will continue in this area. Please continue to monitor construction alerts for changes to traffic configurations or detours. There will be heavy construction activity in this area as crews begin work on the bridge structure that will extend over SH 114.

  • ROAD CLOSURES AND LANE RESTRICTIONS:
    Various night closures in this area will be required for the completion of the bridge structure over SH 114. Please continue to monitor construction alerts for detail regarding these closures.

  • Restrictions of the eastbound SH 114 frontage road will remain in place through January as crews complete bridge construction operations in the area.


  • Various restrictions of SH 114 and the ramps in the area will be required as crews complete bridge construction activities. Details will be communicated as activities draw closer.

  • Construction activity is scheduled to continue for the Irving Convention Center Station along Spur 348 (between SH 114 and Riverside). Lane restrictions will be required along the right shoulder of eastbound Spur 348 for crews to complete these activities. These restrictions are scheduled to remain in place through the end of the month.

    GREEN PARK/MEADOW CREEK/CARPENTER RANCH AREA: Construction activity continues in the Carpenter Ranch area around the Meadow Creek/Green Park Dr intersection. Expect to see heavy construction activity for bridge construction, crossings, and paving in this area. Some night closures and traffic restrictions may be required to provide a safe work area. Please use caution when traveling through the area with the increased activity, and monitor construction alerts to minimize travel impacts.

  • ROAD CLOSURES AND LANE RESTRICTIONS:
  • A full closure of Green Park will continue through late January-early February. This work will require temporary closures and lane restrictions as crews complete the crossing activities.   • Crossing work at Hidden Ridge will begin following the crossing work at Green Park. This work is schedule to begin late January-early February. Thru traffic will need to use Meadow Greek/Green Park at their detour route. Details will be provided as activities draw closer.


  • NORTH LAKE COLLEGE/MACARTHUR AREA: Heavy construction activity is moving into the North Lake College and MacArthur area with grading, walls, bridge construction and station work. Heavy activity will continue around the North Lake College entrance off MacArthur and around MacArthur Blvd (including the median of MacArthur Blvd) to prepare for the bridge structure that will extend over MacArthur to North Lake College.

    Please use extra caution when traveling through this area and monitor changes to speed limits or traffic configurations. Plan your routes and allow extra time to reach your destination. Pedestrians need to remember that it is not safe for them to enter construction zones, so they will need to use alternate walking and jogging routes.

  • ROAD CLOSURES AND LANE RESTRICTIONS:
  • Southbound Walnut Hill will continue to be closed at Hurd Dr. Northbound Walnut Hill will be closed at Brangus Dr. These closures will remain in place into April for crossing work.   • The inside, left lane of both northbound and southbound MacArthur will continue to be closed as crews complete bridge construction activities.


  • Various lane restrictions in the North Lake College area will take place over the next few weeks for bridge construction activities. Please use caution when traveling through this area as traffic configurations will be changing to accommodate traffic and operations. Signage will be present to direct motorists.


  • Heavy truck and construction traffic along Brangus Drive to Walnut Hill and at the Brangus/Walnut Hill intersection will continue for the next few weeks. Flaggers will be present to direct traffic. Please use caution when traveling through this area and allow extra time for travel.

    WALNUT HILL/HURD AREA: Construction activity will continue in the Walnut Hill/Hurd area through early 2011. Construction traffic will be extremely heavy in this area over the next few weeks as crossing work moves into the area. Please use caution when traveling through the area and observe changes to traffic configurations and detours.

    Blue Line to Rowlett Updates:

    Beginning Monday, September 13, selective tree clearing operations begin near the Rainbow Estates community.

    Upcoming closures:

    Eastbound and Westbound Walnut Street at the rail crossing:
    • There will be various lane shifts and temporary lane closures.

    Northbound and southbound 1st Street at the rail crossing:
    • There will be various lane shifts and temporary lane closures.

    Dexham Road at the DGNO Freight Rail Crossing:
    • Starting at 6 a.m. on Tuesday, December 7, northbound and southbound traffic will shift to accommodate the next phase of construction on Dexham Road.

    Main Street:
    New From 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. on the evenings of Thursday, January 27 and Friday, January 28, Main Street will be closed to through traffic from Rowlett Road to SH-66. During the overnight work hours, all residents, business owners and workers will have access.

    Rowlett Road between State Highway 66 and Miller Road:
    • On December 14, the inside lanes of southbound and northbound Rowlett Road will be closed between SH-66 and Main Street. The outside and middle lanes will remain open.

    Richards Street:
    • At 6 a.m. on Friday, October 15, the Richards Street extension will open to through traffic, and will be configured to its permanent state. Access to Richards Street will be available via Melcer Drive. The existing Richards Street / DGNO freight crossing will be permanently closed.

    Martin Drive / Melcer Drive:
    • Martin Drive will be closed from Industrial Drive to Melcer Drive until March 1, 2011. Detour signage will be available. Access to the Rowlett Park & Ride will be available from the entrance on Industrial Drive.

    Any time you undertake a construction project, the possibility for danger is elevated. DART is urging everyone to be extra careful around its facilities, vehicles and especially the construction areas. Here are 10 tips you should know.


    1. Stop, look and listen for DART vehicles.
    2. DART Safely logo
    3. Cross the street or track at designated crosswalks only.
    4. Never walk, ride or play in front of or behind a DART vehicle.
    5. Children should always exit the bus through the front door.
    6. Do not walk, ride or play in a construction area.
    7. Never walk, ride or play on or near railroad tracks.
    8. Always stand behind the textured warning strips on rail platforms.
    9. Be careful when driving or turning across train tracks.
    10. Never try to beat a train through a crossing.
    11. Remember: Safety begins with you. Talk to your family.
