Updated RESCHEDULED: VA Medical Center Station - Platform work will be done at VA Medical Center Station from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. each night from the evening of Monday, February 28 through the evening of Friday, March 4. The station is open and the Blue Line will continue to operate its scheduled service to and from the station while this work is performed.

Southwestern Medical District/Parkland Community:

Lane reductions on Medical District Drive between Harry Hines and Maple Avenue during reconstruction of a 2-lane to 4-lane divided facility

The Texas Department of Transportation's (TxDOT) Contractor, Tiseo Paving, is in the process of reconstructing Medical District Drive. The project continues through August 2011. This project will reconstruct Medical District Drive between Harry Hines Boulevard and Maple Avenue increasing the 2-lane asphalt road to a 4-lane divided concrete road.

Orange Line Updates:

HARRY HINES/NORTHWEST HWY./I-35E/JUSTICE WAY AREA: Crews will continue bridge construction from just west of Harry Hines/ Northwest Hwy/Spur 482 toward Justice Way requiring various lane restrictions and traffic delays. Motorists are advised to monitor Orange Line Construction alerts to help minimize travel impacts. Please plan your routes, allow extra time to reach your destination, and observe any changes in speed limits or detours.

  • ROAD CLOSURES AND LANE RESTRICTIONS:
  • Track and OCS work will continue for the Trinity River bridge structure from Jamison/Bachman Station to the west side of the levee on the Spur 482 Frontage road. Certain aspects of bridge construction will require full closures to avoid work over live traffic. Information regarding these closures will be communicated.

  • Please note that all dates are tentative as they do not account for weather delays or other schedule impacts.

    TRINITY RIVER AREA: Track work and OCS installation continues through the Trinity River area. Motorists can expect to see temporary lane drops and night work. Please use caution when traveling through the area.

  • ROAD CLOSURES AND LANE RESTRICTIONS:
  • Lane restrictions may be required along the Spur 482 Trinity River Bridge as track work and OCS installation continues. Please monitor changes to traffic configurations in this area and vehicles entering and exiting the site.


  • SPUR 482/FEDEX/CENTRAL FREIGHT: Crews will continue track and OCS work along the Spur 482 frontage road in front of FedEx and Central Freight. Flaggers may be present to help direct traffic.

  • ROAD CLOSURES AND LANE RESTRICTIONS:
  • Restrictions along the right lane of the Spur 482 frontage road will remain in place for a few weeks.

  • Please note that all dates are tentative as they do not account for weather delays or other schedule impacts.

    LOOP 12/SH 114 FRONTAGE ROAD AREA: Expect construction activity and increased truck traffic along the SH 114 frontage road around Loop 12 and the old Texas Stadium site.

  • ROAD CLOSURES AND LANE RESTRICTIONS:
  • Activities may require restrictions of the right lane of the westbound SH 114 frontage road. Please use caution with the increased construction traffic.


  • TELEPORT BLVD./RIVERSIDE DRIVE AREA: Bridge construction, crossing and track work continues along Teleport from Riverside Dr thru to Las Colinas Blvd. Minor lane restrictions may be required for miscellaneous construction activities. Teleport Blvd will continue be closed permanently at SH 114 to thru traffic. Access to business drives along Teleport will remain open. Please use caution in this area with changing traffic configurations. Pedestrians need to remember that it is not safe for them to enter construction zones, so they will need to use alternate walking and jogging routes. Motorists are advised to use caution when traveling through this area and obey the advised, posted speed limit of 25 mph.

  • ROAD CLOSURES AND LANE RESTRICTIONS:
  • Lane restrictions will be present along Teleport just south of Riverside Drive as crews finish up the remaining crossing work.


  • Teleport will continue to be closed to thru traffic just past the Irving Fire Department driveway. Access to the post office through the entrance east of Teleport from Las Colinas. Signage will be present to direct motorists.


  • Crews will continue miscellaneous asphalt paving patches along Lake Carolyn Pkwy/Teleport as needed. Flaggers will be present to direct traffic.


  • Miscellaneous lane drops will be required along Riverside Dr and Teleport over the next few weeks for systems operations. Please use caution when traveling through the area.


  • LAKE CAROLYN PARKWAY AREA: Construction activity continues along the Lake Carolyn Pkwy area. Current activities include station and crossing work that will require various lane closures and traffic configurations to provide a safe work space for crews to complete construction activities. Station construction activities are underway that will impact traffic on both northbound and southbound Lake Carolyn Pkwy, south of O'Connor.

    Pedestrians need to remember that it is not safe for them to enter construction zones, so they will need to use alternate pet walking and jogging routes. Motorists are also asked to monitor construction updates and observe and changed speed limits or traffic configurations when traveling through this construction zone. Motorists are not permitted to enter or park inside construction zones. Additional lane restrictions and rolling closures may be required to provide a safe work area as crews continue to progress with the project.

  • ROAD CLOSURES AND LANE RESTRICTIONS:
  • Restrictions of northbound and southbound Lake Carolyn Pkwy south of O'Connor will be present through late February as crews complete the remaining crossing work. Please see Lake Carolyn Parkway configuration 24 (PDF files open in a new window).


  • Restrictions along Lake Carolyn Pkwy between Las Colinas Blvd and O'Connor will be required for grading, track and station operations. Flaggers may be present to help direct traffic when necessary. Please use caution in this area with the increased construction traffic.


  • Construction activity for the Las Colinas Urban Center Station is underway. Construction activities will require lane closures on northbound Lake Carolyn Pkwy south of O'Connor.     CONVENTION CENTER AREA: Expect to see increased truck traffic and construction activity around the Convention Center area for station and track work. Bridge construction activities will continue in this area. Please continue to monitor construction alerts for changes to traffic configurations or detours. There will be heavy construction activity in this area as crews continue work on the bridge structure that will extend over SH 114.

  • ROAD CLOSURES AND LANE RESTRICTIONS:
    Various night closures in this area will be required for the completion of the bridge structure over SH 114. Please continue to monitor construction alerts for detail regarding these closures.

  • Restrictions of the eastbound SH 114 frontage road will remain in place through February as crews complete bridge construction operations in the area.


  • Various restrictions of SH 114 and the ramps in the area will be required as crews complete bridge construction activities. Details will be communicated as activities draw closer.

  • Construction activity is scheduled to continue for the Irving Convention Center Station along Spur 348 (between SH 114 and Riverside). Lane restrictions will be required along the right shoulder of eastbound Spur 348 for crews to complete these activities. These restrictions are scheduled to remain in place through the end of the month.

    GREEN PARK/MEADOW CREEK/CARPENTER RANCH AREA: Construction activity continues in the Carpenter Ranch area around the Meadow Creek/Green Park Dr intersection. Expect to see heavy construction activity for bridge construction, crossings, and paving in this area. Some night closures and traffic restrictions may be required to provide a safe work area. Please use caution when traveling through the area with the increased activity, and monitor construction alerts to minimize travel impacts.

  • ROAD CLOSURES AND LANE RESTRICTIONS:
  • A full closure of Green Park will continue through the end of February. This work will require temporary closures and lane restrictions as crews complete the crossing activities.   • Crossing work at Hidden Ridge will begin following the crossing work at Green Park. This work is scheduled to begin the week of March 7. Thru traffic will need to use Meadow Greek/Green Park at their detour route. Please see Hidden Ridge configuration (PDF file opens in a new window).


  • NORTH LAKE COLLEGE/MACARTHUR AREA: Heavy construction activity is moving into the North Lake College and MacArthur area with grading, walls, bridge construction and station work. Heavy activity will continue around the North Lake College entrance off MacArthur and around MacArthur Blvd (including the median of MacArthur Blvd) to prepare for the bridge structure that will extend over MacArthur to North Lake College.

    Please use extra caution when traveling through this area and monitor changes to speed limits or traffic configurations. Plan your routes and allow extra time to reach your destination. Pedestrians need to remember that it is not safe for them to enter construction zones, so they will need to use alternate walking and jogging routes.

  • ROAD CLOSURES AND LANE RESTRICTIONS:
  • Southbound Walnut Hill will continue to be closed at Hurd Dr. Northbound Walnut Hill will be closed at Brangus Dr. These closures will remain in place into April for crossing work.   • Heavy truck and construction traffic along Brangus Drive to Walnut Hill and at the Brangus/Walnut Hill intersection will continue for the next few weeks. Flaggers will be present to direct traffic. Please use caution when traveling through this area and allow extra time for travel.

    WALNUT HILL/HURD AREA: Heavy construction activity will continue in the Walnut Hill/Hurd area through early 2011. Construction traffic will be extremely heavy in this area over the next few weeks as crossing work moves into the area. Please use caution when traveling through the area and observe changes to traffic configurations and detours.

  • Southbound Walnut Hill will be closed at Hurd Dr. Northbound Walnut Hill will be closed at Brangus Dr. These closures will remain in place into April for crossing work.     Upcoming closures:

    Eastbound and Westbound Walnut Street at the rail crossing:
    • There will be various lane shifts and temporary lane closures.

    Northbound and southbound 1st Street at the rail crossing:
    • There will be various lane shifts and temporary lane closures.

    Centerville Road at Rail Crossing
    • Beginning Thursday, January 27, one inside lane on both northbound and southbound Centerville Road will be closed at the rail crossing south of SH-66 for approximately 8 weeks.

    Dexham Road at the DGNO Freight Rail Crossing:
    • Starting at 6 a.m. on Tuesday, December 7, northbound and southbound traffic will shift to accommodate the next phase of construction on Dexham Road.

    Rowlett Road between State Highway 66 and Miller Road:
    • Southbound Rowlett Road will be temporarily reduced to one lane of travel in the outside lane during any workday, weather permitting, beginning Monday, January 24, 2011 to allow for the work zone safety of the workers and the travelling public, during the track and paving installation just north of Main Street from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for the next two to three weeks. The inside left lane for southbound Rowlett Road will remain closed at all times until the next traffic switch, and the center lane will be temporarily closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The work crew will have the center lane re-opened each workday by 3 p.m. to allow for two lanes of southbound travel through the work zone.

    • Beginning Wednesday, February 9, the two outside lanes for Rowlett Road northbound at Main Street will be closed for approximately 8 weeks.

    Coyle Street:
    • Beginning Monday, February 21, a portion of Coyle Street will be closed to through traffic until Tuesday, March 29, 2011. Access will be provided for local businesses and residents.

    Richards Street:
    • At 6 a.m. on Friday, October 15, the Richards Street extension will open to through traffic, and will be configured to its permanent state. Access to Richards Street will be available via Melcer Drive. The existing Richards Street / DGNO freight crossing will be permanently closed.

    Martin Drive / Melcer Drive:
    • Martin Drive will be closed from Industrial Drive to Melcer Drive until March 1, 2011. Detour signage will be available. Access to the Rowlett Park & Ride will be available from the entrance on Industrial Drive.

    • Beginning, Wednesday, February 9, the intersection of Martin Drive/Melcer Drive will be closed for 45 days due to the reconfiguration of Martin Drive.

    Any time you undertake a construction project, the possibility for danger is elevated. DART is urging everyone to be extra careful around its facilities, vehicles and especially the construction areas. Here are 10 tips you should know.



    1. Stop, look and listen for DART vehicles.
    2. DART Safely logo
    3. Cross the street or track at designated crosswalks only.
    4. Never walk, ride or play in front of or behind a DART vehicle.
    5. Children should always exit the bus through the front door.
    6. Do not walk, ride or play in a construction area.
    7. Never walk, ride or play on or near railroad tracks.
    8. Always stand behind the textured warning strips on rail platforms.
    9. Be careful when driving or turning across train tracks.
    10. Never try to beat a train through a crossing.
    11. Remember: Safety begins with you. Talk to your family.
