Downtown Alternatives Brought to Public for Input
Members of four DART advisory committees are actively helping shape the course of transportation planning for downtown Dallas. Participants on the D2 policy, stakeholder, technical, and community advisory committees include City Council members, community stakeholders, adjacent property owners, staff from local governmental jurisdictions, transit riders, the general public and others.During recent meetings where the narrowed list of alternatives and rail station locations were discussed, members provided valuable insight and suggested enhancements to the proposed alternatives. Suggestions impacting alignments and station locations included:
- Shift a Farmers Market Station away from US 75/IH 45, closer to Farmers Market,
- Avoid impacting historical buildings with the Lamar/Young and Lamar/Marilla alternatives,
- Maximize economic development potential with each alternative,
- Minimize the walk distance from downtown attractions to rail stations, and
- Coordinate with the streetcar element.
