![]() Can it be? Is it possible – DART trains have been rolling across the North Texas landscape for 10 years? ![]() It's hard to believe a decade has passed, especially when the naysayers predicted nobody would ride trains in a region where the automobile is king. But on June 14, 1996, the first bright yellow DART Rail train opened its doors for business, and commuters eagerly climbed aboard – more than 1.4 million riders that first year, growing steadily to 17.48 million in 2005. Today, the DART Rail System is the preeminent project in the American transit industry. With 13 member cities working together, we've established a system that continues to stand out from similar projects elsewhere, so much so that the term "model" has become synonymous with our name. More important, the public has discovered they don't have to sit in traffic burning gasoline, polluting the air and wasting precious time. They can jump on DART Rail and travel quickly and efficiently to the places they want to go: the office, the theatre, shopping and dining, the doctor and the grocer, a sporting event or concert. With connections to DART Rail from the bus system, neighborhood On-Call vans, convenient paratransit service and the M-Line Streetcar, the possibilities for travel are extensive in the DART Service Area. Or catch the Trinity Railway Express to Fort Worth and all it has to offer. Many more destinations will open up as DART Rail expands to the Southeast and Northwest corridors. Think the past 10 years went fast? Just watch us grow! Return to the Inmotion front page |
