Page Title: Moving Boldly Ahead

During these demanding economic times, DART is putting people to work and ensuring a legacy for future generations by doubling the current light rail system. Our $3.4 billion expansion is a significant boost to our region and a welcome silver lining in the midst of a gloomy economic forecast.

Talk about a "stimulus package": Construction of the 28-mile Green Line - with the first section opening to Fair Park on September 14 - is providing daily construction jobs for 2,200 workers as well as tens of thousands of other support jobs for area architects, engineers and manufacturers. More will join their ranks soon as work begins on the first two segments of the Orange Line to Irving and the Blue Line extension to Rowlett. These projects are generating billions of dollars in economic impact, connecting communities, revitalizing neighborhoods and transforming lives. Even if you don't ride transit, DART helps clear the streets you drive and clean the air you breathe to provide a healthier, happier lifestyle.

The timing is perfect as North Texans join the national rush to get out of traffic, save money and reclaim their quality of life. Our ridership grew by more than 13 million trips last year - a testament to DART's growing popularity. As more people stream into what has become the nation's fourth-largest and fastest-growing metropolitan area, demand for transit will only increase. Fortunately, DART is up to the challenge.

In a region famous for its bold "can-do" spirit, we're proving that spirit is stronger than ever.
