The Freedom Run Sept. 9 Freedom Run and Festival is an evening 5K run and one-mile walk honoring the heroes and victims of 9/11. Bring the family and wear your red, white, and blue while enjoying live music, vendors and more at Dallas City Hall Plaza. Proceeds benefit the Dallas Police Association's Assist the Officer Foundation. Registration begins at 5 p.m. and the runs start at 6:30 p.m. Information: thefreedomrun.com.

Dallas Start! Heart Walk Sept. 11 Dallas Start! Heart Walk is a great way to exercise, raises awareness of heart disease and stroke, and supports the research of the American Heart Association. Opening ceremonies are at 8:30 a.m. and the 3-mile walk begins at 9 a.m. at Victory Park. Registration is free and all participants raising at least $100 get a Start! Heart Walk t-shirt.

TX Tough Sept. 16 TX Tough Grand Prix is a professional bicycle race benefiting Children's Medical Center of Dallas. Cyclists will race on a 1,500-meter loop counter clockwise around American Airlines Center at speeds in excess of 50 miles per hour as thousands of fans cheer them on. In 2010, the TX Tough Grand Prix will be the USA Crits Championship Series Finale. The first race begins at 5:30 p.m. Information: 214-526-9712 or txtgrandprix.org

Tour des Fleurs Sept. 18 Samsung Tour des Fleurs, benefitting the Dallas Arboretum, is a 10K and 20K run around beautiful White Rock Lake, as well as a scenic Walk in the Garden for families. During the Walk and after the race, cool off with food, fun and live music. The walk and runs begin and end at the Arboretum's Martin Rutchik Concert Lawn. The 10K and 20K both start at 7:30 a.m. The Walk in the Garden is from 8-9 a.m. The Dallas Arboretum is at 8525 Garland Road. Information: tourdesfleurs.org.

Lifewalk Oct. 10 AIDS Arms LifeWalk is a family- and pet-friendly event to raise AIDS awareness and funds to help HIV-positive men, women and children in North Texas. The scenic a 5K fun run/walk begins at Lee Park at 3400 Turtle Creek Blvd, at the intersection with Lemmon Ave., and continues through beautiful Turtle Creek and Uptown Dallas. Komen Dallas Race for the Cure Oct. 16 Komen Dallas Race for the Cure is an annual 1K and 5K fundraising walk/run event held to raise funds, heighten awareness and educate people about breast health, as well as to recognize and celebrate breast cancer survivorship. Turkey Trot Nov. 25 The Turkey Trot kicks off your Thanksgiving Day with a brisk 8-mile run through Downtown Dallas, across the Trinity River into Oak Cliff, and back. Benefiting the Dallas YMCA. There's also a 5K Fun Run/Walk and festivities before and after the race. The starting gun is at 9 a.m. at Dallas City Hall Plaza, at the corner of Young and Ervay.
