As many know already, construction of the DART Orange Line to Irving/DFW has been underway since June 1, 2009. KSWRP (Kiewit, Stacy and Witbeck, Reyes, Parsons, a Joint Venture), the design-build contractor responsible for construction of the first two segments of the Orange Line, is moving along at a rapid pace from Northwest Dallas into North Irving with various types of construction activity. For those who drive on Interstate 35 near Spur 482 in Dallas, the large Orange Line elevated structures and columns can already be seen headed towards the Trinity River and Irving. Other types of street level construction, lane restrictions, and utility relocations are also occurring in Las Colinas and other parts of the corridor, so it is very important that everyone use extra caution around construction zones.

The Irving 1 segment of the Orange Line is scheduled to be open for revenue service in December 2011, and will include the University of Dallas Station, Las Colinas Urban Center Station, and the Irving Convention Center Station. The Irving 2 segment of the Orange Line is scheduled to open up in December 2012, and will include the Las Colinas Carpenter Ranch Station, North Lake College Station, and the Belt Line Station. The Irving 3 DFW Extension segment of the Orange Line, scheduled to open for revenue service in December 2013, is proceeding with an Environmental Assessment and not yet under construction.
