Media Contact: November 18, 1998 DART Recognized by American Indian Chamber of Commerce
Hailing DART's commitment to utilize businesses owned by minorities and women in its procurement process, the American Indian Chamber of Commerce of Texas named DART as its 1998 "Corporation of the Year." DART was selected because of its "long-term commitment of providing equal access to opportunities for all minorities," said Berry Grubbs, president of Terra-Mar, Inc. of Dallas and first vice president of the Chamber. In a presentation during the Chamber's annual banquet Nov. 5, Grubbs said DART's Office of Minority Business Enterprise (OMBE) has set high standards and the department staff "goes the extra mile." DART has established a goal of utilizing minority- and women-owned businesses for between two percent and 45 percent of all outside participation. Once contracts are awarded, DART's OMBE Contracts Compliance Section monitors the projects on a monthly basis to ensure compliance by prime contractors. -- 30 -- |
