August 24, 2001 DART Light Rail to serve Dallas Medical Center district
Community meeting on proposed rail alignments within Northwest Corridor's Medical Center district
DART representatives will have the latest information on proposed rail alignments and stations serving the growing Dallas Medical Center area at a public meeting scheduled for Monday, August 27. The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Edison Maple Lawn Academy.
Hospitals within the district include Parkland Health & Hospital System, Children's Medical Center, Zale Lipshy University Hospital, north and south campuses of The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas and St. Paul Medical Center. This public meeting is part of the preliminary engineering and environmental impact phases of the project. DART staff will present information and receive public comments on five alternative alignment options for the Medical Center district.
There are two branches to the Northwest Corridor light rail project. The section from downtown Dallas to Farmers Branch and Carrollton is scheduled to open in 2008 and the section to Las Colinas and Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport is scheduled to open in 2010. Proposed rail alignments and stations within the Medical Center district are part of the Northwest Corridor from Dallas to Farmers Branch and Carrollton.
Following the conclusion of a Major Investment Study in early 2000, the DART Board approved a general alignment for the Northwest Corridor that included a rail line along Harry Hines Blvd. from Market Center to Mockingbird Lane. The Medical Center Light Rail Community Meeting is being held at the following time and place:
