DART Honored by Garland NAACP
Transit Agency Receives Community Appreciation Award
The Garland Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) will present DART with its Community Appreciation Award during their annual Martin Luther King, Jr. celebration on Saturday, January 15.
The Community Appreciation Award is given to individuals and organizations who support the Martin Luther King, Jr. celebrations in Garland, and who continue making positive contributions to the quality of life in the city. Some previous award recipients include Prestige Ford, Carver Senior Citizens Group and Minyard Food Stores.
The celebration kicks off at 10 a.m. Saturday morning with the parade that winds through downtown Garland and ends at the Garland Performing Arts Center (5th and Austin St.). The award presentation is set for 10:30 a.m. at the Center. DART Board Chairman Jesse Oliver will be on hand to receive the award. DART has participated in the Martin Luther King, Jr. parade for several years and will include one of its distinctive Trolley-Buses in the parade.
"Knowing the history and significance of this award, it is an honor to accept it on behalf of the entire DART organization," Oliver said. "DART is committed to helping Dallas and its surrounding communities, and we appreciate the continued support of Garland residents."
