Annual senior citizen health fair at DART
Dallas Area Rapid Transit celebrates Older Americans Month with its 6th annual free Information & Health Fair on Wednesday, May 3, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Open to senior citizens throughout DART's 13 member cities, the popular event takes place in the second-floor atrium of DART's headquarters, 1401 Pacific at the Akard Rail Station.
More than 40 participating organizations will offer valuable giveaways, hold drawings and provide free services. Some of the featured items are cataract/glaucoma and hearing exams; glucose, cholesterol and blood pressure checks and pet adoption.
Health fair participants include AARP, Arthritis Foundation, American Cancer Society, City of Dallas, Dallas Fire Prevention Education, Dallas Police Department, Dallas Public Library, Methodist Hospital of Dallas, Senior Citizens of Greater Dallas, SPCA, St. Paul Hospital and Seniors 2000.
"Our Information and Health Fair is a great benefit for seniors in the area because they not only get free health exams, they get help in scheduling trips on DART to area clinics and hospitals," says Jessica Lennon, DART's education outreach coordinator.
Senior citizens can ride DART for a reduced fare every day. Call DART Customer Information at 214-979-1111 or go to the DART website, DART.org, for bus and rail schedule information to get to the fair on time.
