Garland light rail construction underway

DART light rail line construction in northeast Dallas will create some traffic detours over the next three weekends. Traffic will be re-routed as DART demolition crews remove railroad bridges which are on a future DART Rail track running from Mockingbird Station to the White Rock Lake area. The bridges will be replaced with new bridges better suited to handle light rail traffic. Service along this 11-mile long line, which extends from Mockingbird Station to downtown Garland, is scheduled to begin in late 2002.

A railroad bridge over Northwest Highway, west of Lawther near the former Knights of Columbus building will be demolished between 10:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. on Friday, January 8 and Saturday, January 9. Northwest Highway will be closed in that area during that time and local traffic will be re-routed.

A railroad bridge over Abrams Road, south of Northwest Highway, will be demolished on Saturday, January 16 and Sunday, January 17, between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. on both days. Local traffic will be rerouted during demolition.

A railroad bridge over Skillman, south of Northwest Highway, will be demolished on Saturday, January 23 and Sunday, January 24, between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. on both days. Local traffic will be rerouted during demolition.
