Route 840 - South Irving FLEX is a service offering the advantages of a fixed route plus the convenience of curbside service.

This service charges a local fare for boardings at bus stops and a premium fare for trips that FLEX away from the fixed path. FLEX requests are limited to a specific zone and accepted according to the operator's ability to accommodate the trip within the schedule.

Route 840 - South Irving FLEX serves an area bounded roughly by Story Road on the west, Fifth/Sixth streets on the north, Britain Road, Senter Road and MacArthur Blvd. on the east, and Oakdale and Hunter Ferrell roads on the south. Hours of operation are 5:30 a.m.-8:36 p.m. weekdays, and 7 a.m.-6:36 p.m. on weekends.

Vans follow a fixed route (see map) in both a clockwise and counter-clockwise direction, leaving South Irving Station on the hour and half hour from 5:30-9 a.m. and 3-6 p.m. on weekdays and hourly at other times and on weekends.

Note: Counter-clockwise routing operates peak weekday only service. No counter-clockwise service on weekends.

How to use this service

If you board at any FLEX stop along the route, and your destination is also at a FLEX stop, pay the local fare of $1.50 or display a DART local bus pass.

If you board anywhere other than a FLEX stop, or your destination is off the FLEX route, pay the premium fare of $2.50 or display a DART premium bus pass.

To request a stop along the route, simply tell the operator "Next Stop, Please."

Remember: Trips away from the South Irving FLEX route must be scheduled at least one hour in advance by calling 972-880-1752. You will be advised at the time of your call whether or not the operator will be able to accommodate your trip.
