Rowlett Celebrates the Opening of the Downtown Rowlett Station
Downtown Rowlett Station: Nature and History ConvergeLake Ray Hubbard is central to Rowlett's identity and accordingly, it figures prominently in the adornment of Downtown Rowlett Station.
Tile medallions in the rail station platform highlight the flora and fauna native to the area.
The lake theme is woven throughout - from the cattail stalks depicted in the columns to the shade of blue embedded in the walkway that "flows" through a plaza area between the rail platform and the nearby bus bays and park and ride lot.
Artwork abounds across 35 undulating panels, which also echo the motion of water. The scenes depicted range from sketches of the surrounding landscape and fauna, to portraits of the prominent families that settled the area, to family activities that are part of the fabric of current-day Rowlett. The installation also features quotes from celebrated authors Alex Haley and Oliver Wendell Holmes Sr.
"I tried to create a park-like setting that would appeal to families and commuters alike," Delgado said.
Colorful art walls flow between the rail station and bus bays, depicting images of Rowlett's community life and history.
