Dealey Plaza500 Main St., Dallas
Built in the late 1930s, Dealey Plaza, with its Art Moderne style, was once considered the ceremonial gateway to Dallas. It was built to honor publisher and civic leader George Dealey. This small park was once Dallas' original riverfront settlement. All of that was eclipsed by the assassination of President John F. Kennedy as his motorcade passed the park's grassy knoll toward the triple underpass. A National Historic Landmark, the plaza features reflecting pools and a bronze memorial plaque that give one pause. The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza is two blocks away.

Farmers Branch Historical Park2540 Farmers Branch Lane, Farmers Branch
The Farmers Branch Historical Park is nestled within 22 acres that trace the proud heritage of Farmers Branch, from the 1840s through the 1940s. The Gilbert House, built between 1856-1857, is the oldest rock structure in Dallas County still on its original foundation. Other local historic structures on the grounds include the 1937 Dodson House, home of the first Mayor of Farmers Branch; a one-room school that was once part of the Farmers Branch school from 1900-1915; and the original Farmers Branch railroad depot, built in 1877.

Ferris PlazaHouston St. @ Young St., Dallas
Ferris Plaza is a one-block city park bounded by Houston, Young, Record and Wood Streets. The park is across the street from Union Station and has a dynamic fountain in the center. Designed by architect George Dahl, the park originally opened in the 1920s. The fountain was restored in 2005 and operates during lunchtime hours.
More examples of architect George Dahl's work can be seen at Fair Park. Designated a National Historic Landmark, Fair Park has the largest collection of 1930s Art Deco architecture in the United States and is the only unaltered pre-1950s World's Fair site in the nation.

Flagpole Hill Park8007 E. Northwest Highway, Dallas
The scenic overlook of Flagpole Hill Park was built in 1936 by the Civilian Conservation Corps. Other improvements constructed by the CCC include a picnic pavilion, the present Athletic Club building (which previously housed equipment for the city-owned WRR-Radio Station transmitting towers that stood nearby) and the park department headquarters complex (originally a collection of concession and out-buildings.) Separated from White Rock Lake by Northwest Highway, Flagpole Hill's summit provides a great view of the surrounding area.

Haggard Park is a scenic downtown park with a gazebo, playground and restrooms. The park is adjacent to Downtown Plano Station and is the home of the Interurban Railway Museum.

High Point Park Tennis Center

High Point Park Tennis Center boasts 21 lighted outdoor tennis courts, a practice wall, a Sports PC wall, a playground and a pro shop with restrooms and dressing facilities. The facility is served by DART On-Call North Central Plano Monday through Friday.

Irving Veterans Memorial Park644 Rock Island Road, Irving
Visitors to the Irving Veterans Memorial Park will enjoy seeing large bronze statues of veteran soldiers when entering the main plaza. The park features commemorative walls describing the various military branches and locations of wars fought by past veterans. Other features include a Fountain of Hope, River of Freedom, World Map of Confrontation and Commemorative Wall of Contemplation. The Irving Veterans Memorial Park is located near Irving City Hall and adjacent to the Irving Central Library.

Katy TrailN. Houston St. @ All Star Way (near the American Airlines Center), Dallas
The Katy Trail, a 3.5-mile pedestrian and bicycle path, traces the greenbelt along which the former Missouri-Kansas-Texas (MKT or "Katy") Railroad traveled through Dallas. The trail currently features a 12-foot-wide concrete path for cyclists, skaters, runners and walkers. Upon completion, the trail will extend almost 4 miles, linking DART's Mockingbird Station near SMU to the American Airlines Center near downtown Dallas.

Kiest Park3012 S. Hampton Rd., Dallas
In 1930 Edwin Kiest, a prominent newspaper executive, donated a 176-acre tract of woodland to the city for development of a park in the memory of his wife, Elizabeth Patterson Kiest. While serving as president of the Park Board in 1934, he added another 88 adjoining acres to his original gift, creating the 264-acre Kiest Park. In addition to the Kiest Park Trail, a 2.39 mile hard surface trail that meanders along the perimeter and wooded areas of the park, Kiest Park boasts a new softball complex.

Dedicated to the City of Dallas in 1995 by the Dallas Trees and Parks Foundation, Pioneer Plaza sits on just over four acres between the historic Pioneer Cemetery and the Dallas Convention Center. Robert Summers' unusually detailed, vibrant sculpture depicts cowboys on horseback driving 40 longhorns along what was the Shawnee Trail. The sculpture is the largest bronze monument in the world.
