DART Coronavirus Information

DART remains committed to keeping our patrons and employees safe. We stay in close contact with local, state, and national health authorities, including the Texas Department of State Health Services and the CDC. We will continue to monitor the situation for residents in the North Texas region. DART encourages passengers who feel sick or are experiencing symptoms to stay home and avoid public places.

In accordance with the Transportation Security Administration's (TSA) decision to no longer enforce the Security Directives and Emergency Amendment requiring a face mask be worn over the mouth and nose on public transportation and transportation hubs, DART will no longer require that a face mask be worn by passengers and operators while onboard DART vehicles or at DART facilities.

DART remains committed to providing a safe environment for our passengers and employees. Face masks and hand sanitizer dispensers will remain in place and available on all buses, light rail vehicles, TRE vehicles, and Dallas streetcars for anyone who chooses to continue to wear a face mask for additional safety.

DART continues undertaking aggressive agency wide cleaning and safety protocols on buses, light rail, paratransit vehicles, and properties.

Staying Safe with DART

Based on recommendations from the CDC, DART encourages you to buy your transit pass with the GoPass app instead of at a ticket vending machine to avoid contact with surfaces others may have touched.

The best way to prevent illness is to avoid being exposed to this virus. However, as a reminder, CDC always recommends everyday preventive actions to help prevent the spread of respiratory diseases, including:

  1. Avoid close contact with people who are sick
  2. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth
  3. Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash
  4. Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing
  5. If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol

Social Distancing

  1. DART recommends maintaining a six-foot distance between both fellow riders and your DART operator, leaving an open seat between yourself and other riders when available, avoiding large groups and staying home if you feel sick or are experiencing symptoms.
  2. To enforce social distancing practices and protect customer and employee well-being, most transit center waiting areas have been temporarily closed. DART riders can still use the outdoor areas for boarding buses and light rail vehicles.

Cleaning and Safety

  1. DART continues to undertake aggressive agency wide cleaning and safety protocols on buses, light rail trains, paratransit vehicles and administrative and operating facilities.
  2. Vehicles are cleaned with products identified by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as successful in killing the coronavirus, as well as influenza, rhinovirus, norovirus, salmonella, staphylococcus, and e-coli.

In addition to thorough nightly cleanings, DART light rail vehicles receive additional cleanings at the eight end of line terminus stations throughout the day. Red and Blue Line trains are cleaned every 60 minutes. Orange and Green Line trains are cleaned every 90 minutes.

DART buses and trains are also cleaned on a rotating basis with hydrogen peroxide-based cleaning solutions to sanitize and disinfect each vehicle. Almost 85% of the DART bus fleet is currently equipped with an electronic air purification and disinfection technology system (either ultraviolet or ionization technology) to kill airborne viruses as air is recirculated throughout the bus.

DART is prepared to escalate our cleaning process for transit vehicles should the need arise. We continue to enforce our procedures to isolate vehicles and areas that have been exposed to unsanitary and unhygienic situations. This includes removing vehicles from service that have been exposed to biohazard situations from passengers.

Keeping Passengers Informed

  1. As a passenger, you can use the GoPass App to report a problem, which can be downloaded from the Apple Store or Google Play.
  2. We want to remind all our riders that the best way to stay informed about changes in service is through DART Alerts. Customers can sign-up for DART Alerts at www.dart.org.
