Enjoy spring weather with family and friends. DART is your vehicle to discovery!
Numerous DARTable hike-and-bike trails offer an outdoorsy experience right in town. Spring Creek Nature Area in Richardson - less than a mile from Galatyn Park Station - has 4.5 miles of paved pedaling through shady woods. White Rock Lake Trail is a nine-mile loop running south from White Rock Station, and the less-traveled, forested White Rock Creek Trail runs north. Go to DART.org/bike and find more DARTable trails.
If your idea of the outdoors includes wine, you're in luck. Take the Red Line to the Downtown Plano Art & Wine Walk on the second Thursday of each month from April through December. Live music, cute shops, galleries ... what's not to love? See visitdowntownplano.com.
Savor Dallas, from May 14-20, has big-time chefs, live music, and wine and spirits tastings. Barbecue night on May 17 is in Dallas Farmers Market, accessible by D-Link (Bus Route 722). Savor more DARTable possibilities at savordallas.com.
Irving's Whistlestop Plaza, next to Downtown Irving/Heritage Crossing Station on the Trinity Railway Express (TRE), hosts an annual concert series. April 6, 13 and 20, groove to "Vintage Vibes"; on May 4, 11 and 18, dance to "Latin Rhythms." Check out cityofirving.org.
Carrollton's Movies on the Square gets rolling with sundown screenings including "Sing" on April 21 and "Despicable Me 3" on May 26. The square near Downtown Carrollton Station is full of mom-and-pop shops. Visit cityofcarrollton.com.
Downtown Garland is fun, too. The Plaza Theater screens free classics. On April 21, it's "Dr. Strangelove," while "North by Northwest" shows on June 3. The theater is near Downtown Garland Station. See downtowngarland.org.
Another quaint downtown is Downtown Rowlett, home of popular brewpub Bankhead Brewing, a two-block walk from Downtown Rowlett Station. Learn more at bankheadbrewing.com.
