May 8, 2000 Responding to what customers want
DART improves Pleasant Grove bus service More bus service is coming to Pleasant Grove starting May 22 to reduce crowding, serve more neighborhoods and add more weekend service.
"In planning our May 22 service change, we studied the service needs of Pleasant Grove and met with residents and customers on numerous occasions to find out what they wanted from DART," said assistant vice president of planning Tim Newby. "As a result, our buses will travel 5,700 more miles a week, for a 15 percent increase in total miles, in Pleasant Grove."
From route expansions into new neighborhoods and more frequent service during rush hours to increased weekend and evening service, DART is giving Pleasant Grove residents more choices to get where they want to go seven days a week. DART's Pleasant Grove improvements will also include more than 40 new benches and shelters throughout the area.
Here are key changes that will occur in Pleasant Grove on May 22:
Route 11: The Skyline branch will be extended over Buckner Boulevard to Forney Road, replacing coverage formerly provided by Route 29, which will be realigned.
Route 29: This service will be extended along St. Augustine and Prairie Creek Drive between Scyene Drive and Lake June, and service will operate seven days a week.
Route 42: Service will be extended along Elam Road to Masters Road, serving downtown Dallas and Spruce High School. By sharing downtown Dallas destinations with Route 161, there will be more frequent buses and reduced crowding.
Route 161: A new alignment serving downtown from Pleasant Grove will include two branches, each with 10-minute rush-hour frequency to reduce crowding. New service will also be added along Buckner, Bruton and Masters.
Route 475: New Sunday service and more frequent Saturday service.
Customers needing details about the route changes can call the DART Customer Information Center at 214-979-1111 or visit DART's website, www.DART.org.
