SMU Offers Free Shuttle Service and DART Connections
DALLAS (SMU) --Southern Methodist University, in conjunction with Dallas Area Rapid Transit, will provide transportation throughout the DART system at no cost to students, faculty and staff beginning Aug. 23.
In addition, SMU will provide a daytime shuttle service for those who live near Greenville Avenue between Lovers Lane and Mockingbird Lane. The shuttle's main stop on campus will be on the south side of Hughes-Trigg Student Center. The shuttle also will travel frequently between the student center and DART's Mockingbird Rail Station as part of its route.
The shuttle route is designed so that no one has to wait more than 15 minutes, and rides the shuttle for no more than 25 minutes before reaching their destination. In addition, a shuttle passenger traveling between the Mockingbird Rail Station and the student center will ride for no more than five minutes. The shuttle will run every 15 minutes from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and every 30 minutes from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. weekdays when SMU classes are in session.
The shuttle service and cooperative effort with DART will be formally dedicated during ceremonies at noon Sept. 1 in front of SMU's Hughes-Trigg Student Center, 3104 Dyer St.
The shuttle service will help ease the temporary shortage of parking spaces at SMU, which is the result of several new buildings being constructed. New parking structures are being to eliminate the parking space shortage, caused when some existing parking lots became the sites of new buildings or construction staging areas.
