DART to Bountiful Holiday Shopping
Who needs reindeer when you've got a DART train or bus?
DART's modern bus and train fleet is the way to get to fascinating specialty boutiques, fabulous department stores and handy bargain stores, just a short stroll or a shuttle ride away from a DART Rail station or transit center. Here are some shopping spots where you can find everything from a top-of-the-line fountain pen to the perfect party dress, from that must-have DVD to Santa's surprise for the good children on your list.
Uptown & Cityplace
West Village Beckons with Chic Shops & Fun Feeling Swanky West Village, 3699 McKinney Avenue, between Blackburn and Lemmon, is just two blocks west of Cityplace Station's west entrance. The latest attraction to open near a DART station is already luring crowds. With shops and cafes below and lofts overhead, the new neighborhood invites shoppers to stroll along tree-lined sidewalks as they visit more than 20 establishments already open - with twice that many scheduled to open by January 2002. Stores include home decorating treasure chests like Legacy Trading Company and Design House Stockholm, as well as fashion favorites like Ralph Lauren Polo and Banana Republic. Exotic boutiques like Tommy Bahama's and Near & Far complement the high-style denim of Lucky Brand Jean Company. There's even a new Vespa scooter dealership next door to the Paciugo Italian ice-cream parlor and beneath the new Magnolia Theater, a five-screen art film center opening in mid-December. Cityplace Market Has Bargains Galore A block away from Cityplace Station's east entrance, Cityplace Market features Target, MacFrugal's, Payless Shoe Store, Rainbow Store, Radio Shack and Ross Dress for Less. Target is open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day. Other stores are open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays. North Dallas
Mockingbird Station Tempts with Mega Record Store, Cool Fashion People love to hang out in this European-inspired shopping, entertainment and residential village adjacent to Mockingbird Station, Mockingbird and North Central Expressway. Find all the latest CDs and DVDs at the Virgin Megastore. Other shops include Victoria's Secret, The Gap, Bath & Body Works and the ultra-cool Urban Outfitters. Virgin Megastore is open 10 a.m. to midnight Sunday through Thursday, and Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. Hours vary for other bistros and boutiques. NorthPark Center Lures Holiday Shoppers to 160 Top-Line Stores NorthPark Center, 8687 North Central Expressway, offers holiday décor including a majestic forest of live blue spruce trees and pecan reindeer in a fantasy candyland, 40 toy trains, children's story hours with Santa, a Christmas puppet theater, and a SPCA Pet Adoption Center. Quite a backdrop for more than 160 cafes and stores, including Neiman Marcus, Lord & Taylor, Foley's and Dillard's. Shoppers enjoy a wide selection of merchandise from one-of-a-kind diamond rings at Tiffany to the latest must-have toy at FAO Schwarz. NorthPark Center is open Mondays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sundays from noon to 6 p.m. A special Holly-Trolley shuttle departs every 15 minutes from Park Lane Station. Galleria Is a Holiday Shopping Mecca of 200 Stores With its magnificent indoor Christmas tree, an ice-skating Santa and fireworks to boot, the Dallas Galleria, LBJ Freeway at Dallas Parkway, is a major destination for folks on a shopping pilgrimage. A flagship location for Saks Fifth Avenue, Nordstrom and Macy's, the Galleria also has the Original Levis Store, Colorado Pen Company, and Zany Brainy, a store with a "zillion fun items" for kids. Downtown Dallas
West End Marketplace Is the Place for Texana, Craft Items West End Marketplace, 603 Munger Avenue at Market Street, has 35 shops and cafes just two blocks from West End Station. Stores include Alamo Flag Store, A Little Taste of Texas, Destination Dallas and numerous arts and craft shops. Neiman Marcus Downtown Offers Fine, Festive Shopping Experience Neiman Marcus Downtown Store, 1618 Main Street at Ervay Street, is just three blocks from St. Paul Station. Every floor in the original department store is decked with exciting new trimmings designed each holiday season. From boutique fashion to fine jewelry - and a broad array of perfumes and colognes - the festive atmosphere will shift you into shopping mode from the moment you step through the wide glass doors! Regular store hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays, and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursdays.

South Side on Lamar Boasts Artist's Arcade Shoppers looking for a unique gift for that special person might find it at South Side on Lamar's retail arcade. It's in a former railroad tunnel running through the middle of the former Sears Catalogue Center, recently renovated into loft apartments at 1409 South Lamar. A dozen artists, working in oils, acrylics and pastels, offer their work to the public. Just a block down Belleview Street from Cedars Station, the arcade is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Mondays through Saturdays, and can be entered from Belleview Street or Arnold Street. Lancaster/Kiest Shopping Center Has Fashion Town & Fun Bazaar Lancaster/Kiest Shopping Center, 3030 Lancaster, is a short walk from Kiest Station, and also has Trolley-Bus service to area stores, including Fashion Town, Family Dollar, Radio Shack and the Kiest Bazaar, which offers jewelry and craft items. Hours vary, but most stores are open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Mondays through Saturdays.
Crest Shopping Center Offers Feed, Furniture & Formal Tuxedos At 2650 South Lancaster near Illinois Station, Crest Shopping Center includes Carter's Department Store, Hart's Furniture Company, Mr. Formal Tuxedos and Feeder Supply & Hardware, selling everything from monkey food to nails. Heritage Square in Irving Makes for Fun Antiquing in Historic Setting Just two blocks from South Irving Station, Heritage Square, Main Street at Second Avenue, offers shoppers a fun afternoon of gift seeking in a dozen establishments. Stores include Irving Antique Mall, housing more than 30 dealers, and Gail's Antiques & Collectibles. Shoppers love Patsy B's Gift Shop and Clothes Quarters, which deals in both current and vintage fashion.
