Safety education program obtains first award

DART receives Northeast Dallas Chamber Community Service Award

The Northeast Dallas Chamber of Commerce has selected DART to receive its 2002 "Community Service Award for Education" in the business/organization category. DART's Transit Education Outreach program taught 68,000 students to be safe on board and around trains and buses last year.

"I am pleased to recognize DART's dedication and commitment to make a direct impact on the education of our children," reads a citation from U.S. Rep. Pete Sessions commemorating the honor.

This is the first award received by the Transit Education Outreach program. The agency organizes transit outreach programs, schedules school assemblies and conducts route promotions to deliver its "DART Safely" message. Presenters stress safety, including using crosswalks and never playing on or near rail tracks.
