Public hearings encourage input on light rail expansion

Community invited to comment on Southeast Corridor environmental report

Residents and business owners in DART's Southeast Corridor are invited participate in upcoming public hearings regarding the Draft Environmental Impact Statement for a proposed 10.2-mile light-rail extension to Southeast Dallas.

The public hearings also will address amending DART's current Service Plan to reflect the Southeast Corridor's rail alignment, stations and grade separations.

The environmental study outlines the potential transportation and environmental impacts of the light rail extension connecting downtown Dallas with Deep Ellum, Baylor University Medical Center, Fair Park, South Dallas and Pleasant Grove. Public hearings are set for:

DATE/TIME: Tuesday, March 12, 6:30 p.m.
PLACE: Tom Landry Center,
411 N. Washington Ave. (Mapsco 45-D)
 
DATE/TIME: Wednesday, March 13, 6:30 p.m.
PLACE: Pleasant Grove Public Library,
1125 South Buckner Blvd. (Mapsco 58-Q)
 
DATE/TIME: Thursday, March 14, 6:30 p.m.
PLACE: Daniel Chappie James Elementary School,
1718 Robert B. Cullum Blvd. (Mapsco 46-P)

Light rail was chosen for the corridor because it will improve transportation in the area, create better access to jobs and contribute to improved air quality in the region.
