DART Approves Public Hearing on Service Restoration

Board members at Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) have given the green light to move forward with an August 11 public hearing on a service restoration plan.

The agency implemented modified weekday services on the bus and rail system on April 6 after steep ridership declines due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Trinity Railway Express (TRE) services were reduced in March.

DART's board was briefed Tuesday, July 7, on plans to accept input on several options including:

• adjusted frequencies for seven bus routes and light rail service,
• restoration of normal weekday bus service levels on 25 routes,
• discontinuing, modifying or replacing nine low performing bus routes,
• continuation of emergency service levels on at least 48 bus routes,
• creation of two new GoLink zones, and
• a phased restoration of service levels on up to 40 bus routes based upon a ridership trigger, with ridership increases expected as pandemic conditions ease and riders return to the system.
