DART building state-of-the-art LNG fueling facility for new bus fleet On Monday, October 13, DART takes delivery of the first of two 30,000-gallon liquefied natural gas (LNG) storage tanks which will house environmentally friendly fuel for new LNG-powered buses to be based at DART's Northwest Division, 2424 Webb Chapel Extension.Lone Star Energy Company is building the LNG station for DART and will supply the fuel. The fuel station will consist of the two storage tanks, supply pumps and three LNG dispensers. The first 103 of 533 new buses will begin arriving in Dallas this spring. The first shipment of vehicles, 50 of which will be LNG-powered, are being built by Nova BUS Inc. of Roswell, New Mexico. As the new fleet comes on line, DART will remove older buses, some of which have been in service since the early 1980s. DART operates a fleet of 820 buses along 130 bus routes within its 700 square-mile service area. All of the buses to be delivered this spring will be air conditioned and equipped with wheelchair lifts and larger, easier-to-read destination signs. The vehicles will also feature on-board security camera systems sending real time video images back to bus dispatchers.
