Make a child's holiday special!
DART commuters become Santa Cop elves this Christmas
DART Rail and TRE customers are invited to join in the spirit of giving by donating a new unwrapped toy to DART's Santa Cops at events on Dec. 9 and 16. Presents collected from customers will be distributed to more than 250 north Texas families as part of the fourth annual DART Santa Cops program.
The Santa Cops and representatives from the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Campaign will collect new unwrapped toys Thursday, Dec. 9, from 6-9 a.m. at these DART Rail stations: Parker Road, Mockingbird, Akard, Union Station and Hampton.
Santa's sleigh is transformed into a yellow DART bus from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Dec. 16 when DART and radio station K-104 FM will once again stuff a bus with new unwrapped toys at Mockingbird Station.
Donations may also be made through Dec. 20 in the lobby of DART Headquarters, 1401 Pacific (Akard Station) and DART Police Headquarters (1333 N. Stemmons Freeway, Dallas).
The program started by DART Police in 2001 has grown from 41 families during its first year to more than 250 families last year. Santa Cops provide toys and grocery bags filled with turkey, dressing, pie and all the trimmings for a happy holiday meal. Food and toys for the campaign are collected through donations from area churches, businesses, customers and contributions from DART employees.
