PLANO, TEXAS [October 23, 2025] Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) will honor Plano’s historic Douglass Community with a special dedication ceremony at the 12th Street Red Line Station on Saturday, October 25, from 10:00 to 10:30 a.m.
The event will unveil 16 windscreen installations featuring historic photographs of Douglass residents, families, and neighborhood landmarks, a lasting tribute to the community’s cultural roots and enduring legacy.
Following the ceremony, guests are invited to continue the celebration at the 12th Street Silver Line Station, located on the lower street level. The Station Celebration will feature local entertainment, family-friendly activities, and opportunities to explore the new Silver Line trains before they officially open to the public.
The Douglass dedication is part of DART’s daylong Silver Line Grand Opening, featuring celebrations at all 10 new stations from Plano to DFW Airport, connecting seven North Texas cities and expanding mobility across the region.
A Partnership Rooted in Community
The dedication was made possible through a collaboration between DART and the Douglass Community, including local historians, artists, and longtime residents who worked closely with DART’s art and design teams. Together, they shaped a station that reflects the neighborhood’s history and honors generations who helped build Plano.
About the Douglass Community
The Douglass Community is one of Plano’s oldest historically Black neighborhoods, established in the late 1800s and named after abolitionist Frederick Douglass. Generations of residents have built a strong sense of unity and civic pride centered around institutions such as Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church and the Douglass Community Center.
Today, the neighborhood remains a cornerstone of Plano’s heritage, a vibrant reminder of the city’s roots, resilience, and commitment to honoring its past while building for the future.
