DART News Release
Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) Red and Orange Line passengers will encounter temporary service adjustments between Friday, Aug. 1, and Monday, Aug. 4, due to ongoing construction at the new 12th Street Station in Plano.
The interruption is necessary to facilitate construction and testing of newly installed operating systems at 12th Street Station requiring the closure of both tracks between Galatyn Park Station and Parker Road Station. The new light rail station is being constructed along with the Silver Line Regional Rail project and is expected to open when Silver Line begins passenger service before the end of the year.
Bus Bridge Service to Ensure Continuity
DART will implement a bus bridge to maintain connectivity for riders during the temporary service disruption. The bus bridge will link passengers to their usual Red and Orange Line stops at Galatyn Park and CityLine/Bush Stations in Richardson as well as Downtown Plano and Parker Road Stations in Plano.
Buses will operate every 20 minutes in each direction beginning at 10 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 1, until 2 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 2. Bus connection service will resume from 4 a.m. to 2 a.m. Saturday. Aug. 2, through Monday, Aug. 4.
“We understand the importance of ensuring our passengers get to their intended destinations, so while it’s necessary for us to suspend light rail operations to advance construction of the 12th Street Station, we know our rail riders will reach their stops safely under the great care of our bus operators,” said Trey Walker, DART vice president of capital programs.
DART Bus Operations will manage the bus bridge, with concierges stationed at affected locations to guide passengers and assist with the connection process throughout the weekend.
Enhancing Regional Connectivity
Once completed, the 12th Street Station will provide a seamless connection between the new Silver Line station, about 300 feet to the east, and a new aerial platform that will serve as an additional stop for Red and Orange Line service. There is no on-site parking at the station as it will share a 300-space lot with the Silver Line Station.
The Silver Line is a 26-mile regional rail project crossing seven cities—Addison, Carrollton, Coppell, Dallas, Grapevine, Plano, and Richardson—across three counties. Once operational, the Silver Line will connect East Plano to DFW Airport’s Terminal B. Anticipated travel time to and from the 12 Street Station to DFW Airport is 56 minutes.
