Media Contact: October 19, 1998 DART in the community DART transportation and maintenance employees feed the homeless Saturday, October 24 About 1000 of the area's homeless are expected for the fifth annual "Feed the Homeless" lunch sponsored by employees of DART's Northwest Division Bus Operations on Saturday, October 24, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Northwest Division facility at 2424 Webb Chapel Extension, near Harry Hines Blvd.The event is an all-volunteer effort for the employees who begin taking money from their paychecks months in advance to cover the expense of the food. DART staff prepare and serve the meal to people who live in the streets and under the bridges around the Northwest Division facility as well as clients from the Dallas Life Foundation and Salvation Army and other area homeless facilities. DART employees -- including the DART Choir -- provide entertainment to guests attending the lunch. More than 800 individuals and families were helped during last year's event. |
