Garland optometrist and transit leader Dan Monaghan re-joins DART Board

The Garland City Council has appointed civic leader and train enthusiast Dan Monaghan to the Board of Directors of Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) for his second term of service.

The Garland optometrist previously served on the DART Board from 1990 to 1993, and was also on the DART Citizens Advisory Committee from 1983 to 1990. Affectionately known as "Dr. Dan the railroad man," Monaghan was the original curator of the Age of Steam Railroad Museum at Fair Park, Dallas and is affiliated with numerous transportation organizations.

A founding member of Mobility Dallas, Monaghan is a respected rail historian who is also involved in contemporary transportation issues for north Texas. His involvements have included the Texas Association of Rail Passengers, the North Central Expressway Task Force, Garland's Rail Freight Economic Development Task Force, Garland Parks & Recreation Board and the Southwest Railroad Historical Society.
