Media Relations Contact: January 18, 2001 DART Bus Service Changes January 29 New Buses, Services Highlight Bus Improvement Beginning January 29, it'll be easier than ever to reach the new Cityplace Station or travel around Lakewood, Garland and Rowlett.
Customers needing specific information may pick up service change brochures on buses and trains or at DART transit centers, transfer locations, park and ride locations or rail stations. Service change information also is available on the DART website, DART.org., and by calling the DART Customer Information Center at 214-979-1111. Cityplace Station Bus Service The west entrance of Cityplace Station (on the North Central Expressway west frontage road at Haskell and North Central Expressway) opens Monday, January 29. There is no DART parking at the station, but bus routes 36 and 409 are being modified to provide direct access to both the new west entrance and the east entrance at Cityplace Tower. Route 51 will serve the west entrance. Route 33, which also serves the station, is being renumbered 503. Page 1 of 4 DART On-Call Comes to Lakewood Following its success in East Plano and Rowlett, the DART On-Call curb-to-curb shuttle service begins in the Lakewood section of east Dallas. This service replaces the Mockingbird branch of Route 19. Wheelchair lift-equipped vans will serve a 4.6-square-mile service area bounded by White Rock Lake on the east, Northwest Highway on the north, Garland Road and LaVista Court on the south, and Abrams Road on the west. DART On-Call operating hours are 5:30 a.m. - 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, with service to Mockingbird Station at 30-minute intervals during rush hours (6-9 a.m., 3-6:30 p.m.), and hourly at other times. During the midday and early evening hours, passengers may request DART On-Call pickups and dropoffs at the following neighborhood locations:
One-way fare is $2 or free with a premium monthly pass. Passengers with a valid train ticket, local monthly pass, or transfer from a local bus route will be asked to pay an additional dollar. Senior citizens or persons with disabilities with DART Identification Cards may ride for the reduced fare of 50 cents. Reservations will be required for subscription or same-day trips. Walk-up passengers will be accepted on a space-available basis. Call 972-880-5958 for reservations. On January 29th, this service will replace that portion of the 19 Mockingbird Station branch currently operating via Sperry Street between Lakewood Shopping Center and Mockingbird Lane, as well as Route 519. Route 19 service will still be available along Abrams between La Vista and Mockingbird. Better bus service for Garland and Rowlett Two new bus routes (376 and 385) start January 29, and Routes 207 and 412 will see some changes as well. Route 207 Non-stop service will be introduced between the Rowlett Park and Ride and downtown Dallas, and five peak period trips will be added. Buses no longer will serve the Christian City Park & Ride and the Highway 66/Dalrock Road portion of the current route. Service in that area will continue to be available through DART-On Call. Route 376 This route will connect the Woodmeadow area with shopping along Northwest Highway and Centerville Road. The route also serves the South Garland Transit Center. Route 385 This route will originate at Lake Ray Hubbard Transit Center and serve the residential and commercial locations along Interstate 30 between Bobtown and Chaha roads. Buses outbound from Lake Ray Hubbard will display a 385 CHAHA destination sign. Route 412 Service on Rowlett Road between Hickox Road and Lakeview Parkway (State Highway 66) will be discontinued, with buses instead traveling over Hickox, Dexham Road and Lakeview to serve a new Wal-Mart on Highway 66 and Dexham. New 30-foot Buses Debut DART rolls out the first of its fleet of 91 new 30-foot-long buses on January 29. The buses will initially travel along the northern portion of the current Route 2, which is being renumbered to Route 8. The new route travels from Union Station in downtown Dallas through the Oak Lawn section of Dallas and on to Preston Center at Northwest Highway. The buses have all the features of DART's new 40-foot buses, but are better suited for travel along shorter, neighborhood routes in many of DART's member cities. The new buses seat 25 front-facing passengers or 19 passengers and two wheelchairs. They are equipped with wheelchair lifts and the same automated route announcement system found on DART's new 40-foot buses. -- 30 -- |
