Sherry's photographs of her fellow DART passengers can be seen in Red Line, a photo exhibit at the ArtCentre of Plano through July 31. The collection is the outgrowth of a class assignment at Collin County Community College, where Sherry has studied photography and photojournalism. "There is something unique about the people I photograph on the train that makes me want to take their picture," Sherry says. "Sometimes I get on and off different trains in order to see different people. And I especially enjoy photographing kids." In addition to riding the Red Line, Sherry has ventured to such Collin County towns as Blue Ridge, Celina and Westminster to capture life in the villages outside the sprawling Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. Sherry's work has earned honors at the community college, including a Best of Show award that provides a partial scholarship to continue her studies and the opportunity to present a one-person show. Her photos also appear in Forces, a published compilation of student artistic works. She plans to continue her academic and artistic studies at the Kansas City Art Institute or the University of North Texas. "I hope to use my photography to inspire and give a personal view on other people's lives," Sherry says. "I want to encourage people to step outside of their comfort zone and see someone else's reality face to face." The ArtCentre of Plano is located at 1039 E. 15th Street in historic downtown Plano near DART's Downtown Plano Station. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. For information about DART services, fares, schedules, trip planning and maps contact DART Customer Service at 214-979-1111 or visit www.DART.org. -- 30 -- |
