Media Contact: January 22, 1998 HOV Lanes Expanding Preview of Dallas' next HOV lanes set for Wednesday, January 28 Take time to learn about the area's next high occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes during an open house on Wednesday, January 28 from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Top O' the Cliff Club, 400 South Zang. The open house is sponsored by DART and the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) and is free.The new HOV lanes are scheduled to open in late 1999. They will run between downtown Dallas and I-20 along I-35E (South R. L. Thornton Freeway) and U.S. 67 (Marvin D. Love Freeway). The 11.1 miles of new HOV lanes are expected to shave an average of 14 minutes from the commuters' daily drive. The lanes are projected to carry 19,000 users daily. Officials from DART and TxDOT will be available to answer additional questions about the new lanes. Construction of the new lanes is scheduled to begin in February. Nearly 85,000 commuters travel on the current 37-mile network of HOV lanes every weekday.
