Swing into action after Thanksgiving on DART Break out of your turkey torpor by taking DART to a host of Dallas-area sporting events. Pucks, pigskins and basketballs will be flying throughout the long holiday weekend. And all the games are easy to reach on DART.
The Dallas Stars host hockey's Stanley Cup Champion New Jersey Devils on Friday, Nov. 28. Take DART Rail to West End Station and catch the shuttle to American Airlines Center, or ride the Trinity Railway Express (TRE) to Victory Station. Get game information at 214-467-8277 or dallasstars.com.
It's football or basketball on Saturday, Nov. 29. The SMU Mustangs end their gridiron season against archrival TCU at Gerald J. Ford Stadium. Ride DART Rail to Mockingbird Station and stroll to the Hilltop. If you prefer nets to goalposts, take in the championship game of the SMU Hoops for the Cure women's basketball tournament at Moody Coliseum. You can get ticket information for both games at 214-768-GAME (4263) or smumustangs.com.
The Dallas Mavericks get in on the Saturday night action against the Minnesota Timberwolves at American Airlines Center. Call 214-747-6287 or visit dallasmavericks.com for ticket and game schedule information.
Wrap up the weekend back on the ice, as the Stars face off against the Los Angeles Kings. The puck drops at American Airlines Center on Sunday, Nov. 30. There is no TRE service on Sunday, but the DART shuttle will take you there from the West End.
Jumpstart the season on the TRE
Your family is sure to get in the holiday mood at the 21st Annual Verizon Wireless Parade of Lights in downtown Fort Worth, 6 p.m., Friday, Nov. 28.
This magical event illuminates a mile of city streets with thousands of dazzling lights and colorful floats. Antique cars, marching bands and horse-drawn carriages add to the festive scene, along with a visit by Santa Claus and his elves.
The TRE is running a Saturday schedule on Friday the 28th, with the last train leaving Fort Worth at 9:55 p.m. This gives Dallas and Collin County customers a whole new way to enjoy the parade. To get there, ride the TRE to the Fort Worth ITC, then walk or take Fort Worth T bus Route 1 to downtown Cowtown. Parade information is available at 817-336-2787 or fortworthparadeoflights.org.
Arrive early for the parade, and you can enjoy shopping, dining and entertainment in Sundance Square. Many merchants now offer TRE destination deals, discounts and other money-saving offers for anyone with a DART, T or TRE ticket or pass.
