Spiller served as Deputy Chief since 2001 when he joined the transit agency following a 27-year career in the U.S. Air Force. In his final Air Force posting, he served as director of the Defense Threat Reduction Agency, located in Albuquerque, New Mexico. His training and education includes graduation from the prestigious Air War College at Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama, as well as a Master of Science degree in criminal justice administration from Central Missouri State University. As Chief of Police, Spiller will direct the overall functioning and operation of transit police activities, and develop and administer implementation of transit police programs including law enforcement, security, crime prevention and training. DART Police officers are licensed peace officers of the State of Texas with all the rights, privileges, obligations, and duties of peace officers in the state, which means that DART Police officers have the power of arrest, serving arrest warrants, issuing citations, search and seizure, and filing criminal charges. DART Police officers are special-purpose peace officers created by the Texas Legislature whose purpose is to safeguard DART, its customers, and employees by providing police services on the transit system. -- 30 -- |
