Grand Avenue and Garland Road to Close Temporarily
DART to Demolish SH 78 Bridge
The SH 78 bridge will be removed permanently by the Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) on Tuesday, Sept. 5, in east Dallas. During the bridge removal, Grand Avenue and Garland Road at Gaston Avenue will be closed from 8 p.m., Sept. 5, to 5 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 6.
Once the structure is removed, crews will place the bridge in the median to dismantle and dispose it. As crews work in the median, the left lanes of Grand Avenue and Garland Road at Gaston Avenue will be closed during off-peak hours on Wednesday, Sept. 6, to Wednesday, Sept. 13. Lanes for both roads will reopen during peak hours from 5 to 9 a.m. and 3 to 7 p.m.
Message board signs will be placed on both sides of the SH 78 bridge providing information on detour routes, lane closures and the bridge demolition. Additionally, message signs will be placed along various streets adjacent to the project.
Phillips/May Corporation, of Dallas, is the contractor of the project. Work on removing the SH 78 bridge will complete on Sept. 13.
