DART to State Fair Fun and Games

Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) is your ticket to amusement rides, football and fun at the 2018 State Fair of Texas, Sept. 28 through Oct. 21.

The fair comes only once a year and with it comes larger crowds on DART. With approximately 3 million fair visitors and many taking advantage of the ease of riding DART light rail the following changes are necessary:

  • Extra Green Line trains between Victory and Lawnview stations from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. weekdays and 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekends; all trips will feature 3-car trains;
  • Orange Line extended to Parker Road Station on all trips, weekdays and weekends (except for Sat., Oct. 6);
  • Added Green and Blue line service after 7 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays;
  • Extra buses on Routes 60 and 409 Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays;
  • Trinity Railway Express (TRE) will operate on all four Sundays during the fair;
  • Visit DART.org/statefair to view these special DART Rail schedules.
Green Line service
Fair Park Station, located on Parry Avenue at the entrance to the fairgrounds, and MLK, Jr. Station, located south of R.B. Cullum Boulevard and convenient to the Gate 6 entrance and the Cotton Bowl stadium, are your choices on DART's Green Line. Extra Green Line trains will be available approximately every 15 minutes between Victory and Lawnview stations.

Making the connection
All DART Rail and Trinity Railway Express (TRE) passengers can transfer easily to the Green Line. Just look for trains saying, "Fair Park," "Buckner" or "Lawnview."

Southbound Red, Blue and Orange Line passengers transfer to the Green Line at Pearl/Arts District Station. Northbound Red and Blue Line passengers transfer to the Green Line at Akard Station.

Eastbound Orange Line passengers transfer to the Green Line at Bachman Station. For all days of the State Fair, except Sat., Oct. 6, all Orange Line trains will be extended to Parker Road Station. For the Oct. 6 football game, Orange Line trains will only operate between DFW Airport and Bachman stations. TRE passengers can transfer to the Green Line at Victory Station. Details are at TrinityRailwayExpress.org/StateFair

Customers using the Denton County Transportation Authority (DCTA) should check DCTA.net for departure and arrival times and to ensure smooth connections at Trinity Mills Station to DART's Green Line.

Fare and GoPass® information
DART and the State Fair of Texas are making it easier than ever to buy your 2018 general admission tickets to one of the finest fairs in the nation. Hundreds of thousands of riders have used GoPass® to buy and display their transit passes. DART introduced a new version of the app in May 2018. Make sure you have the updated version on your phone.

Real-time trip planning is one of many new features. This means on those days during the fair that DART service is different, you can use the app to plan your trip. DART riders are encouraged to purchase their fare through the GoPass® app for Apple or Android smartphones.

Fares are also available at any DART Rail Station from a ticket vending machine and from your bus operator. Day Passes are valid for unlimited rides on the date of purchase only through 3 a.m. the following day. When purchasing a Day Pass on a bus, exact cash or change is required. Fareboxes accept bills and coins, including $1 coins. Bus operators cannot provide change.

Purchase a Local Day Pass for $6, good for DART Rail, local buses and riding the TRE from CentrePort Station. Tarrant and Denton County customers need a Regional Day Pass for $12. It is not necessary to buy a DART transit ticket to take advantage of the State Fair discount ticket. Details are available at DART.org/StateFair or by calling DART Customer Information at 214-979-1111.

Discounted state fair admission
You can also buy your State Fair of Texas general admission with the GoPass® app. Show your purchased fair ticket on GoPass® at the gates to get in. To make the deal even sweeter, you'll save two dollars on every fair ticket by using GoPass®!

Three football games
This year college football fans have three games being played at the historic Cotton Bowl. Kickoff times have not been determined, but the dates are set. Ride DART to the State Fair Classic between Prairie View A&M University and Grambling State University on Sept. 29, the AT&T Red River Showdown game between the University of Texas Longhorns and the University of Oklahoma Sooners on Oct. 6, and in its inaugural year, the Jaguars of Southern University and Tigers from Texas Southern University will travel to Dallas for the State Fair Football Showdown on Oct 20.
